Welcome to the 2017 Spruce Grove Initiation Ice Cap Tournament

To all Coaches and Managers

Thank you for participating in the Spruce Grove Initiation Ice Cap Tournament. The following is some information to help prepare you and your team for the weekend.

Please pick up your team package and players bags at the committee table prior to your first game.

Each player and coach will receive a coupon for a free hotdog from our concession

Coaches and Managers, help yourself to coffee courtesy of our local Tim Hortons Saturday and Sunday morning.

*Please note that our concession is cash only.

Format

Please see attached for the tournament rules.

Each teams in Pool’s A,B and C are guaranteed 4 full ice games (3 games and a playoff game).

Teams in Pool’s D and E are guaranteed 4 half ice games (3 games and a playoff game).You are welcome to have one on ice coach to help your players if you feel necessary.

After each game there will be 2 players from each team awarded with a Heart and Hustle Award. These players will be chosen by their own coach. Please inform the time keepers at the end of every game.

Player and Manager Raffles

We will be having draws for the players and managers for some great prizes. Your names will automatically be entered. Winners will be posted at the raffle table. Good Luck!!

Raffle Table

We will have a raffle table on site with an assortment of prizes and silent auction items.

This year we will have a special raffle in support of a charity.

The raffle table will be open on Friday and Saturday with the draws occurring at 6:30pm on Saturday, January 14. Winners will be posted at the raffle table. Prizes can be collected at the rink on Sunday, January 15.

In addition to the raffle table we will be having 50/50 draws held during games on Friday and Saturday.

Food Bank Challenge: Hockey Slaps Hunger

Another important component of our tournament every year is the annual Food Bank Challenge – Hockey Slaps Hunger. Bring in the most items and your team could win a Pizza Party!! Please see the attached poster for more details.

2016 Spruce Grove Initiation Ice Cap Tournament Committee

Tournament Rules

1) Each team will play 3 games plus a fourth playoff game.

2) Teams will not dress a goalie. Players in goal may use a goalie stick.

3) All games will begin with a 3-minute warm-up followed by a 54 minute run time game. Time will be adjusted accordingly to stay on schedule.

4) Following the warm up and prior to the first face off, all players will line up at their blue line for the playing of the Canadian National Anthem for Saturday games only.

5) All shifts are 3 minutes and a buzzer will signal line changes.

6) Face-offs will occur:

·  at the start of the game;

·  at the start of each shift; and

·  after each goal

7) There will be no offside calls.

8) There will be no icing calls.

9) All games will be officiated by a referee. You may have one coach on the ice if you feel necessary but please let the referee officiate the game.

10) A 3-goal limit per player per game rule will apply to encourage team play. Subsequent goals by any player reaching this limit will not count toward the team score, but will still be recorded on the game sheet.

11) In the event of a tie game, the score shall remain even. There will be no overtime play or shoot-outs.

12) No more than a 5 goal spread will be shown on the clock. Goals will be recorded on the game sheet, but not marked on the scoreboard.

13) All teams will shake hands at the end of each game.

14) A Heart and Hustle award will be given to two players from each team at the end of every game. The team coach will choose the players who will receive the award (Please inform the timekeepers of your choice at the end of the game).

15) In the event there is not enough time to present the Heart and Hustle award on ice following the game, the award will be given to the coaches to distribute to their team following the game.
