PHILOSOPHY

-Parent packet

-Individual sport (Race against the Clock) – PRs vs. places

-Improvement is the focus

-Qualifying Standards for Varsity Finals & Conference Championships

-Sportsmanship and Respect: Profanity, Taunting, Verbal abuse by anyone is not tolerated. Fighting, Alcohol, Drugs immediate dismissal from the program. No Exceptions!

-Parents Code of Conduct – Each parent must sign

SAFETY

-All pits are off limits!

-Hurdles and all other equipment are off limits unless supervised by a coach.

-Field event safety – watch where you stand or walk

-Running safety- look before crossing track – do not interfere with runners

-On hot race days make sure athlete drinks enough water and stays in the shade

-Ways of preventing injury: proper stretching, rest, water.

FACILITY RULES

-Off Limits- Hills,Cougar Den, Upper half of the stadium, Equipment Shed

-Stadium entrance- visitor side for practice, home side for meets

-Parking permit situation - Maybe

-Coaches and volunteer workers only on field, no parents or siblings

-Water only on the field. No food or sports drinks.

-Gremlin parents must remain at practice and in the stands. Parents can help out, if previously approved and authorized.

-No dogs allowed – Except for certified service animals

INFORMATION /COMMUNICATION

-File folders for each athlete (paperwork, ribbons, etc.)

PERSONAL EQUIPMENT

-Running Shoes, Socks

-Racing spikes (Bantams on-up) – spikes available at meets where needed

-Appropriate practice wear: shorts, T-shirts, sweats, boys keep shirts on.

-Sweats/Track Suit needed for each practice and meet.

-Uniforms: under the uniform must be black, white, maroon 1st meet at practice.

-Must wear entire uniform at every meet. Tuck in shirts.

-Lost and found

-Light snack and water before practice

VOLUNTEERS

-Introduce Coaches (Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Hurdles, Age Group, Distance)

-Practice volunteers – help age group coaches, run distance, ribbons, jelly beans, etc.

-Volunteers for Meet Day – on-line sign up sheet, ask on race day if you have time

-Introduce volunteers for timing, nurse, merchandise, field event judges, etc.

-Sign up sheet for volunteering – the importance of volunteers to the club and the athletes.

PRACTICE

-First practice is Monday, February 1, 2016 - 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for Gremlins and Distance and 6:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. for all others

-Pick up of athlete must be on time! ON TIME @7:30 P.M.

-Drop off and Pick up – Valencia Ave entrance only so athletes don’t walk through lot.

-Practices are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 5:00-7:45pm, Saturday 10:00 am to 12:00 p.m. When meets start evening practices continue and meets are on Saturday.

-If it is raining no practice (Facebook and web site notification) stay at the track with the athlete until you are sure there is practice on days with possibility of rain.

Attendance: A Minimum of 2 practices per week is required; 3 times a week is preferred.

-Mock Meet on 3/12 – timing volunteers, help new athletes get used to meet day situation.

-Field events start the second week of practice

Closed practice, absolutely no one is allowed on the field unless they are a coach, athlete or pre-approved volunteer. Gremlin parents may stay on the same end of the field where Gremlin athletes practice in the stands.

TRACK MEETS

-3 meet minimum to qualify for Finals and awards.

-Home meets: Set up (6:30am) tear down at the end of the meet - parent help needed

-Home meets: Volunteers will be needed for staging, finish line, statistics, long jump, high jump, shot put, hurdle crew, blocks, tag pullers, timers, etc.

-Away Meets: maps/directions on website, allow time to find the place, get tags, etc.

-Away Meets – Volunteers will be needed for events TBD.

-Upon arrival athletes need to see their coaches immediately for event tags.

-Relays: Athletes must check in with their coach in order to be on a relay team and warm up with the relay team. All athletes who want to run relays may not be on a team - based on ability and amount of athletes running the event.

-Event order and qualifying standards also found on websites.
