SOUTH AUGUSTA FOOTBALL CLUB
YEAR SUMMARY
2009
2009 SUMMARY
Tonight marks the end of another football year for the club and another hard year for the volunteers who continue to keep the club going through their hard work and dedication.
It was not a good year for the Football Operations in 2009 with none of the senior teams making thefinals but the victories in the under 15s , under 13’ and under 11’s indicates that we have a good future ahead of us if we want it.
May thanks to Anthony Anno, Mark Austin, Ryan Struck and Robert Laube who contributed their time and effort during the year , especially Anthony who has coached the A grade for the first time and has learnt a lot in his debut.
Don’t forget the Racing tips start this weekend and the Management Committee will continue to push its ‘Code of conduct’ within the club in a year and we willaim to improve the standard of behaviour so please take it on board.
The Football Committee desperately need help with Football management so instead of having a say on the sidelines, get involved and let Harry Waterworth know if you want to be involved.
Grants received this year for a new gymnasium, gym equipment and Indigenous weight programs and Drinkwise workshops will improve the club in 2010 and label the club as a Community club and socially responsible in many ways.
Many thanks to all the coaches, support staff and volunteers for the year and congratulations to all the trophy winners in 2009. Lets get behind the footballers in 2010 and get us back to where we belong and please join the Vice Presidents club next year.

A GRADE COACHES REPORT
Ok then, my first year as coach was disappointing and was not what I had planned. It was a sub-standard year as we had a great start to the season with us being in the top four and also holding the top position. Unfortunately we had a mid year slump and some inexperienced calls from me that took its toll for the season.
On the brighter side of the year we blooded some young pups from the U18s: Ben Trewartha, Daryl Hudson, Christopher Grantham, Nathan Nistico, Tyson Black and Marcus Gill. It is these pups and the other pups in the team such as Greg Shirley, Jesse Skipworth, Jaylon Wingfield and Daniel Royals that stood up when we needed them to. I am sure that if they apply themselves early next year, they will be there again.
It was pleasing to see premiership player of 2006, Jake Collins come back to the club bringing along with him, his brother Daniel. These two recruits showed their valuable contributions to the side with them both being named in the 2009 Port Augusta Side of the Year. Along with Jake and Daniel being named in the 2009 Port Augusta Side of the Year is Adam Grantham, Matthew Grantham, Brock Laube, Chris Heron and Greg Shirley. All of these guys had a great year for the club as they showed in the voting for the Best & Fairest.
With what we have, I believe that we have a good young squad that is developing along slowly. In the squad we have players who do not have the skill as others but put in 100% every time they train and play and we have players who need to take the next step and put their hand up and play to their potential. For this squad to develop quicker, they all need to get the right attitude (for the team and not just for themselves) and do the hard work on the track for it to pay off. It has been shown that hard work and commitment gets you to the Grand Final and also wins it.
Firstly, I would like to thank my wife, Rochelle and my children for giving me the support I needed throughout the year. If I didn’t have their support, I don’t think I would have been able to put the time and effort in required to coach.
I would like to thank Jamie, Choco and Nick Heron for their contributions to the team throughout the year. I also would like to thank Harry Waterworth and the Football Committee for giving me the opportunity and support to coach this great club.
Also I would like to thank all of the volunteers who ran water for us during the year, even if they cost us a free kick. A big thank you to Cletus for doing the rubdowns to the players before the game and for being a taxi service to some players and for the pre-season assistance with the water. And to Val for getting the players on the track and for telling the players off when they are injured when they don’t get any treatment until the last night of training.
Congratulations to the Colts teams and coaches that made the Grand Final and to those who won. Also congratulations to all of those who won trophies in their respective grades.

B GRADE COACHES REPORT 2008
Pretty disappointing year for the Bs with a total of nearly 70 players used this season. Had 4 wins for the season but could of been alot better if players were a lot more dedicated. Will keep working the players over the next few months to develop a better playing environment.

U/18 2008 REPORT
This year was a tough year for the Under 18’s, as we were left short of players towards the end of the season as players lost interest through out the year for various reasons. This lead directly to us finishing the season with only 4 wins.
On the positive side of the season 4 more Under 18’s played their first A Grade games, Nathan Nistico, Daryl Hudson, Tyson Black & Chris Grantham. Ben Trewartha had an amazing start to the under 18’s season and then was able to carry that form through into the A-Grade. Daniel Royals & Jack Magarey also applied themselves well to playing senior football this season.

UNDER 15 REPORT:
Congratulations to the 2 under 15s teams that played off in the grand final with Michael Curley’s team South Red taking the honours over South White .
This is a great achievement for Coaches Michael Curley and Jason Di Paulo who have trained the lads this year starting in January and this has certainly paid off with the possibility of several senior players from this group in the near future. Gary Warren finished 2nd in the under 15s league medal and talk has it that he may try out with North Adelaide in 2010.
Trophy winners in South Red were Best and fairest: Gary Warren, Runner up: Lucas Bendessi, Best team man: Slade Laube, Best 1st year: Clayton Milera
Most Consistent: Sam Maule, Most improved: Shaquille Likouresis, Coaches trophy: Louis Fox.
Thank you to the helpers, and David Williams, Colts committee, Trevor white for the players teas and Lee Willcocks, Mark Austin and Robert Harvey for umpiring.
Trophy winners for South White included Fairest and best Michael Morse, Kenneth Davey, Runner up, Brandon Charlesworth, Ben Hilder, Darcy Noll and Pat Miller

UNDER 13s 2009 PREMIERSHIP END OF SEASON REPORT
The under 13s had a fantastic season we started training at the end of march, 6 weeks before the season kicked off, with 26 boys training extremely hard each week.
During the season the boys learnt the most important rule in football “DISCIPLINE”. We spent many sessions doing push-ups, sit-ups ,star jumps, knees to chest and every-ones favorite burpees
To improve fitness and strength. Each week we worked on improving our skill level with kicking ,marking and handball drills as well as tackling and playing position football.
At the end of the minor round we were on top of the ladder with 12 wins and 3 losses. We won the semi-final to advance straight into the Grand Final by 6 goals.
Our Grand Final was played in the worst weather conditions I have ever coached in. Luckily we won the toss and kicked with the gale force wind the boys played extremely well and were 5 goals up at quarter time .We held Hawks to 2 goals in the second term and then kicked 5 goals to their 1 in the third , the boys held them to 3 goals in the last to hang on and win by 4 goals.
Caleb Ritter won the David Williams Medal for Best On Ground, other great efforts were Craig Shirley ,Alister Harley and Tom Hore who ignored the Doctors and played with 10 stitches in his upper leg.
Congratulations to Al Harley and Caleb Ritter who came third and fourth respectively in the Corey medal count and Kenny Beattie-Dadleh who came second in the Margaret Nobbs goal kicking award.
A big thank you to Terry Hillman and Feyne Kaesler who helped me with coaching and the runners job. Peter Trewartha, Jack Waterworth and Rob Rozee who umpired the boys and to the dads who done the goal umpiring and to all the parents who worked the hot-dog trailer and supported the boys each week.
A special thank you must go to Jasmine Ritter who was our Head Trainer and Team Manager each week (watch out Val).

UNDER 11’S SOUTH REPORT
Coaches – Andrew Reynolds & Damien Forrest
The under 11 side had a great season this year with the team going through undefeated. We were really happy with the standard of football played and the way the boys took on board the drills and work we did at training.
It was great to see some of skills learnt taken into games, you don’t expect some of the concepts of the game to be taken up so easily by those so young. We explained the way we wanted to carry out our plays at training it was good to see them transferred to games by the players.
We would like to thank all the helpers we had this year, the help to do the jobs required to run the football side takes much of the pressure off of the coaches and allows us to focus on the football itself.
Firstly we would like to thank Rob Rozee and Michael Horner for all their assistance at training with coaching the kids and umpiring games during the year. Simon Owens for his help with the time keeping and all the parents who helped on the gate, worked on the hot dog trailer and everyone who did the goal umpiring during the year.
Thank you to the parents for bringing the kids out to training and to all the games.
Most of all thank you to the efforts put in by all the players this year. We had a great group of committed and talented players who bonded very well and showed great team spirit. Their conduct as players and individuals was first rate at all times and that made coaching this team a pleasure.
A big thank you to Craig Ritter for his help with getting started and with all the notes and handouts during the year, it made it a lot less stressful for first year coaches.
Most of all thank you to our families without whose support we could not have done the job.
So congratulations to all involved and well done on a great year. The success was well deserved by all.

UNDER 9’S
Twenty players attended the first training nite of the year which in 2 weeks swelled to approx 40 players wishing to play for our club. The 5,6,7 year olds were sent to the Mini League competition leaving a core group of approx 20 players.Round 1 started with a bang for Tom Clancy kicking 3 goals in his very first game of football. As most players had played the previous year, the emphasis at training and games was to try learn team oriented football, skills and discipline.
