Welcome to Room 8!

Hello Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Welcome to our classroom! I am very excited to be your child’steacher for the 2016/2017 school year. I look forward to working with your child and watching him/her grow throughout the year.

Communication:If at any time you have any questions or concerns please contact me at (619) 258-4828 or email me I may not be able to answer during class time, but will get your message after school and will respond within 24 hours.

Drop Off and School Hours for primary grades: 7:45 – 1:35. Every morning we gather to the left of the flagpole near the bathroom at 7:40 a.m. You are welcome to stand behind our line to say the Pledge of Allegiance with us and then wave goodbye as the children walk to our classroom, ready for a fantastic day! Separation can be very difficult for some children. Prolonging the goodbye does make the situation worse. The best thing to do is to establish a routine of one quick hug, reassure them that you will see them later and then walk away.

Dismissal: Primary dismissal time is 1:35; however, for the beginning of the year we will begin to dismiss the students at about 1:30 p.m. to ensure that everyone safely gets to the correct adult or location. We will meet you at the second blue bench near the fence across from the office. Kindergarten parents must park their car and walk to meet us. Please do not park in the car pick up line. Your child will only be released to the person you have listed on the card in the school office. Project Safe (before and after school care) students will stay with us until we deliver them to Project Safe staff members. Bus riders will be escorted to the bus. Please make sure I see you and your child together at dismissal. Do not leave without me seeing that you or the correct person picking up your child has them.

Absences: Please phone in your child’s absences by calling (619)258-4800 even if you have already notified the teacher.

After School Duty: I am responsibletwice a week for walking all of the primary grade bus riders to the bus in the front of the school and going to duty on Mesa Road. On these days (Thursday and Friday), you will pick up your child from the same spot and Ms. Farber will be supervising my students. I would suggest being at school a little early those days to make sure you are there on time.

Important: If your dismissal plans change in any way, please send in a note or call the office 258-4800.

Breakfast: Children who are buying breakfast may come on campus to the table by the cafeteria from 7:15 – 7:35. The cost is $1.25. Note: This may change within the first two weeks of school.

Snack: 9:35-9:50 Please provide a healthy snack each day for recess time, even if you are told by your child that she/he does not get hungry! PLEASE put the snack into a separate bag from your child’s lunch or lunch money and clearly mark it with your child’s name and the word “snack”. This helps with getting everyone out to recess more smoothly and eliminates the possibility of accidentally throwing away “leftovers” that are meant to be for lunch.

Lunch: 11:55-12:35The children are supervised at all times at the lunch tables and on the playground. We will provide extra support as needed to help the children through the lunch line and with getting settled for lunch. Children can purchase lunch for $2.75 (or $.40 for reduced lunch) or you can prepay on your child’s account. Please send any money in an envelope with your child’s name on it. Please see the district website for more information for depositing money into your child's lunch account: or call 619-258-2290.

If you opt to apply for free/reduced lunch, please return the application that you will receive the first day of school. Miss Norma, our health clerk, processes these quickly; however, you will still need to pay for lunch until the application is approved. No child is ever left without lunch—if you leave the money or lunch in the car one day, don’t worry!

***Please put your child's name on the inside of his/her lunchbox, snack box/bag, on any lunch money bag/envelope, and on the inside labels of jackets.***

Bathrooms:Students will have access to the larger bathrooms near the primary playground during recess, lunch, and other times. Children will be encouraged to visit the bathroom as needed. Ideally, they will get used to a schedule in order to minimize time away from learning and to avoid accidents. If you know your child has bathroom issues, I would recommend keeping a change of bottoms in their backpack in a plastic bag.

Birthdays and Holidays: We can celebrate your child's birthday at school. Please do not send in cupcakes on your child's birthday. Non-compliant foods are not allowed (district policy) except for one day per month. No home-made goods are allowed at any time. Please feel free to send in a non-edible party favor, or donate a book to the class on your child's special day.

***Please let us know if you do not wish to celebrate your child’s birthday or other holidays.***

Conferences: Parent-Teacher Conference days will be December 5-9, 2016. We will be on our modified-day schedule (7:45-12:30) all week.
