Welcome to Ms. Nazarian’s Kindergarten Class

Welcome to Kindergarten!! My name is Ruth Nazarian and I am looking forward to working with you and your child this school year. I graduated from the University of South Alabama with my BS in Elementary Education in 2011.It is my hope that we can work closely together to give your child the best possible education this year.

For the first two weeks of school, our main focus will be learning classroom rules and procedures. Our math and science units are counting and colors, and we’ll be doing a lot of “word work” with the letters in our names. In addition, we’ll start some beginning reading activities with books based on those themes.

Weekly

To keep you as informed as possible, I will be sending home the following:

  • Your child’s planner, which goes home every day. In kindergarten these are used to record your child’s daily conduct grade, and write notes to parents. Please sign and return the planner every day.
  • A weekly folder will go home every Monday. Please check this every week for important papers and homework assignments. The folder will also contain:
  • A skills checklist which lists many of the specific items your child will learn during the quarter. As the quarter progresses, more and more of these
  • will be graded, so that you can see in detail how your child is doing.
  • A weekly newsletter, which will let you know what we are learning about each week, including homework assignments. Please take time to read over this carefully each week.( posted on Dixon’s website and email too!)
  • A homework letter will come home when necessary with assignments that will reinforce skills. Please take a few minutes to complete the homework assignments with your child.

****RETURN PLASTIC FOLDER & PLANNER THE NEXT DAY****

Your child’s regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her success. I can’t emphasize this point enough!!Most kindergarten learning activities are group-oriented and involve interaction with classmates. Therefore it is next to impossible to make up work at home. Please view school as a priority, and see to it that your child attends every day except in cases of illness or emergency.

If your child is absent, make sure you send a written excuse on the day he/she returns to school. All absences will be marked unexcused if a note is not received in two days. Excused absences are for student illness, death in immediate family, weather (as determined by the system), or special approval by the principal (ahead of time).

Snack

Since we have an early lunch, we’ll have “snack time” every afternoon at 2:15. Children may bring a snack and or a drink from home, or may purchase them at school (snacks cost 50 – 75 cents). The “snack cart” comes to our room first thing every morning, if you choose to send snack money to school.

School policy encourages healthy snacks for our students like: water, juice , fruit, crackers, baked chips, cheese, pretzels. No Soda, No Candy Please!

Dixon school also sells a variety of ice cream treats for $1.00 every Monday and Friday, promptly at 8:00. So they must be on time to order their ice cream! (no ice cream on the first day of school)

Class Rules

Learning to following rules is a very important part of kindergarten, so I am going to be very consistent with the rules.Everyone starts out with a green smiley face , they will move to yellow, and finally to red  if they are unable to follow class rules. I do give warnings before they move from green to yellow and red. I will mark the daily planner with smiley faces and a short note to explain when they don’t have a green face. I hope to send home lots of green faces!!!!

Class Rules

  1. Use kind words /Be a good friend
  2. Keep hands and feet to yourself
  3. Raise hand to speak
  4. Follow teachers directions
  5. No running inside school building
  6. Use inside voice in classroom

Possible Consequences

Children who “forget” rules get a warning. If the problem continues: 1) the child is sent to “time out” for three minutes, 2) the child loses privileges, 3) the parents will be contacted. Know that if you get a call or a note, other solutions have already been tried!

Children who follow the rules well are rewarded with praise, stickers and extra privileges.

Changes in Transportation

Please let me know in writing if there are ANY CHANGES in the way your child will be getting home from school. Older siblings may not come to the room to let me know of changes. I must have it in writing from a parent or guardian. This is for the safety of your child. If there are any changes in transportation that arise in the middle of the day call the office.

Field Trips

*Field trips are reserved for students only.No Siblings

*Students must ride the bus with the class.

*Only parents and legal guardians are allowed to accompany their child as chaperones.

*Fieldtrip fees are not refundable (bus, event tickets are purchased in advanced)

Please feel free to contact me , send a note, e-mail me () or call me at school 824-4314 and leave a message and I will call you back.
