Welcome to Mrs. McKinnon’s Pre-Algebra Class

My goal is to give each student the skills needed to be successful in Algebra I in the ninth grade. The following items will be used so that each student will be successful.

Required Materials

Bring these items to class every day:

*Pre-Algebra book

*Composition notebook

*red or green pen

*graphing grids or graph paper

*PENCIL

*NO electronic devices unless otherwise specified

Procedures

A. Daily Directions

1. Enter quietly.

2. Go to your assigned seat.

3. Make sure that your pencil is sharpened.

4. Follow the directions on the front board.(Begin the bell ringer.)

(Do not wait for the bell to ring. Class begins when you enter the room. Begin on the

bell ringer before the tardy bell rings. Failure to read and follow the directions on the board will result in a tardy.)

B. End of Class

1. No one is to leave when the bell rings.

2. I will dismiss the class by saying, “Have a nice day!”

3. Walk out of the room.

C. Make-up work

1.  Each student is responsible for making up work that was missed due to an absence. Go to my web page that is located on the school’s website.. The assignments will also be listed on an assignment board in my room.

2.  Students are responsible for grading their own make-up work before school and for turning in the work.

3. Copy notes from another student.

4. Tests will generally be made up in my room. See me concerning this.

5. If you have a planned absence, please get a planned absence form from the office.

D. Homework

1. You will be assigned homework almost every day, but you will be given time in class to begin the assignment.

2. Homework will be checked the following day.

3. Homework grades will generally be worth 10 or 25 points.

4. You must copy all of the problems and show all work.

5. If you do not have your homework the following day, I will be following the school’s EAET homework policy for the first semester.

E. Getting Help

1. Ask questions in class.

2. Review notes.

3.  Ask me for a pass so that I may help you in the mornings at 7:00 in C-16.

4.  I will be in Think Tank in Thursday mornings at 7:00. (Room C-16)

F. Grade Sheets/ Averages

1. Grade sheets are handed out at the beginning of each nine-week period.

2. While not required, keeping a grade sheet is encouraged.

3. It is the responsibility of the student to keep his/her current average up to date and to

confirm the grade at mid-term and the end of the nine-weeks.

G. Discrepancy in Grading

1. It is a good idea to keep all of your homework, quizzes, worksheets, etc. for each nine

weeks period. You will have a nine weeks test each grading period.

If you receive a grade that is different than what you expect, then showing me your old papers (properly labeled) could possibly improve your grade.

H. Wish List (needs)

1. Kleenex

2. Anti-bacterial wipes

3. AAA batteries for the graphing calculators
