WELCOME TO DR. WILSON’S 7TH GRADE SCIENCE CLASS!
Science class this year should be an exciting and interesting time. We will be using the Scientific Method to investigate ourselves and the world around us, learning how to act as true scientists in the process. We will explore, investigate, experiment and discover many new things and find out how they directly affect our everyday lives. We will do this by exploring both Life Science and Earth Science. We will begin by investigating the world of microbiomes (the many bacteria that make “us” their home). We will then research the topic of metabolism to see how it keeps us “going”. Heredity will also be explored in Life Science. Then we will discover how the Earth’s plates affect the changing world around us. The Ocean, atmosphere and our climate will also be explored. Finally, we will end the year by investigating weather patterns that impact us every day, sometimes more severely than others.
CLASS MATERIALS:
You must be prepared for class each day with pencils, ruler, colored pencils, notebook (thin 3 ring binder) or folder(with a few pieces of notepaper) and most importantly, your charged, assigned ipad!
HOMEWORK:
Science homework will be given occasionally, and is due the next day unless otherwise noted. Homework assignments will be posted on the front whiteboard and online as well. Make sure you copy the assignment (if there is one) into your agenda and have it completed on time!
UNITS OF STUDY:
INTRODUCTION:
We will review the Scientific Method and practice our observation and laboratory skills.
LIFE SCIENCE:
We will explore Microbiomes, Metabolism, as well as Heredity and Reproduction, to discover how all of these things dramatically affect our lives.
EARTH SCIENCE:
We will investigate Rock Transformation, Plate Motion, the Ocean, Atmosphere and Climate, as well as Weather Patterns, to discover how our everyday world is constantly being changed and affected by these forces.
I am truly looking forward to a fun, exciting, interesting year exploring these topics with all of you. I hope to get to know each of you well and help you to become effective “scientists” whether you choose to go into a Science field or not. Being able to seek the truth that is out there and explore the world around us to improve not just our own lives, but those around us as well, is a worthy pursuit for all of us!
