Welcome to British Lingua

Welcome To British Lingua

In India, we still talk about English as a language only without keeping in mind the ground reality. We face a peculiar situation where English has become more an indispensable skill than a tool of communication for everyone, for every age-group irrespective of regions and social strata they belong to. And when we talk about it as a skill, challenges compound, leaving learners clueless. But that was then. After years of in-depth research, rigorous interaction and on-the-spot assessment across the country in both rural and urban landscape, we brought in a holistic plan and develop an easy-to-go system of learning English from basic to advanced stage and the result was the emergence of British Lingua — a pioneer in Spoken English Skills Training.

Established in the beginning of 90s as a trademark of Birbal Academy & Publications Pvt Ltd, British Lingua continues to embark on its mission to achieve the target of 'English For All.’ The institute is providing conducive environment to learners who are the natural beneficiaries of its courses aimed at enhancing their language and interpersonal skills. A core team of dedicated and innovative trainers, scholars and teachers ensures that institute adopts new techniques and research and development to keep pace with changing times without compromising on quality of learning. We are here to guide and motivate all those who seek our assistance to build up their competency and carve out a niche for themselves.

Unveiling the Values of a Visionary Educationist

Envisaged by Dr Birbal Jha, acclaimed educationist, entrepreneur and author, who made concerted effort and did pioneering work on making English easily accessible and receptive to thousands of people across the country especially in the Hindi heartland, British Lingua is today a standalone institute in spoken English skills training in India.

An alumnus from Patna University, Dr Jha has written around two dozen books on the subjects of self-help and the English language, including Celebrate Your Life. As a columnist, he contributes regularly in popular dailies like The Hindustan and Dainik Jagran. As a playwright, Englishia Boli, which he wrote in 2012 and which focused on the importance of English language learning, was widely appreciated by readers. About 13 years ago, Amy Waldman ran a story in the acclaimed newspaper The New York Times detailing about how young men and women were rushing into British Lingua "to follow new English programs ... and gain the status that speaking English bestows.

The purpose of British Lingua which has its headquarters in Delhi with numerous branches in states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, is to "provide unfettered access to the study of English for all sections of society" in India. Governments of Delhi, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh used its services for skill development through Spoken English Courses. The institute was also commissioned by the Government of Bihar to implement the first Spoken English Skills project for Dalit and Mahadalit youths with an aim to enhance their employability skills. In what may be described as a unique convergence between the government and a private entrepreneurship, British Lingua successfully implemented the Bihar government's initiative of English teacher training project in 2009. The project, no doubt, contributed immensely in raising a massive awareness towards English language. Buoyed by the overwhelming support and its success in skill development, the institute has decided to expand its footprints across the region.

The institute makes the case that an important solution to India's challenges of education, employment and employability lies in adopting skill training and apprenticeships on a large scale. Degrees and skills complement each other: one has social signaling value, the other employability signaling value, so we can innovate in their convergence. For example, Germany has Europe's lowest unemployment rate because of apprenticeships. It’s not without reason that institute and its founder have been receiving accolades and laurels from national and international forums.

Learning Modules

One may have a slew of choices for career and profession but when it comes to medium of expression, he/she is left with only one choice i.e. English. Then there are those who may have basic knowledge but they feel it hard to write and speak fluently with confidence. Proper application of language is a pre-requisite to succeed not only for students and job-seekers but also for those who go on to start their own businesses and trades. What they need most is institutional support and encouragement, both of which the present system lacks.

At British Lingua, we have developed the curriculum with flexible schedules in such a way that learners feel inclined to become an integral part of this learning process. We have designed different courses keeping in mind the need and requirement of the target learners or the group of learners. We offer different courses of English for different levels (Basic to Advanced). And these are of varied length and levels of intensity. Our courses are very systematic and designed for all kind of learners. We connect with the students in a positive way and help students do better. Our productive and professional altitude ensures proper care for our students. Specific modules are developed for courses in career and business English. There are special classes for housewives and junior.

Training Methodology

Simply speaking, training is described as the systematic development of the knowledge, skills and attitudes required by an individual to perform adequately a given task or job. It's a planned process to modify attitude, knowledge or skill behaviour through learning experience. At British Lingua, we emphasize on active participation on the part of the learners. Trainers keep in mind that their training period is proportional to the normal human attention span. It's useful as the presentation is made skillfully. Group Discussion (GD) is used to enhance attitudinal development of learners. In GD/PI/PD, sets of learners focus their attention on a given problem at a time. They are motivated to speak from multiple points of view within a group. Each one gets an opportunity to present ideas and gets feedback from others of the same group. Peer pressure helps them serve to ensure adherence to decisions on discussion.
