WELCOME TO BETA ALPHA PSI’s Spring 2010 INFORMATION NIGHT!

Beta Alpha Psi National Honors Society for Financial Information Professionals was established in 1919 at the University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign. Since that time, the organization has spread to over 270 campuses nationwide. Of these chapters, our chapter is one of the largest. As a participating member of Beta Alpha Psi, you will learn about a variety of career opportunities, meet many recruiters, and associate with students of similar backgrounds.

Each Beta Alpha Psi member is required to participate in a combination of professional and service events. Beta Alpha Psi conducts numerous activities, such as professional presentations, field trips, interview and internship programs, and philanthropic activities that allow members to meet their hour requirements. Members may also use their involvement in other campus and community organizations (non-BAP sponsored events) to work toward their hour requirements. In fact, we strongly recommend that members use non-BAP sponsored events to help reach their hour requirements. Additionally, Beta Alpha Psi organizes a number of social events that give members the opportunity to get to know each other and build relationships with fellow university students.

This semester promises to be an exciting one. We have done our best to ensure that our program includes activities that will be both interesting and beneficial for everyone. The programs will not only allow you to learn about the business topics being discussed, but will also allow you to establish relationships with firm representatives in an informal setting. You will have the opportunity to participate in programs not available to all accounting, finance and MIS majors. Representatives from all the firms have a genuine interest in getting to know you. They have a great deal of knowledge and information that they would like to share with you. Take advantage of these opportunities.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Undergraduates:

1) Pursuing an accounting, finance, or MIS degree, with at least a sophomore standing and enrollment in OR completion of ACCY 202.

2) Cumulative GPA Requirements (current semester’s hours do not count towards total):

Sophomores (31-60 hours) 3.50

Juniors & Seniors (More than 60 hours) 3.30

Graduates:

1) Pursuing an advanced degree in accounting or MBA candidates with an undergraduate accounting, finance, or MIS background.

2) At least one semester of work completed at the University of Illinois with a 3.5 overall GPA, and at least 1 more semester remaining at the University.

INITIATE REQUIREMENTS

1) Attend ALL candidate meetings and ALL general meetings.

2) Attend the INITIATION CEREMONY

3) Attend 12 Professional Events (See guidelines below)

4) Attend 8 Service Activity Hours

5) Attend at least 5 BAP Social Events

Beta Alpha Psi is very strict with its initiate and active member requirements. Those who do not meet these requirements will not be initiated. The success of this society is dependent on the involvement of all members, and each individual is expected to fulfill his/her requirements.

CANDIDATE ATTENDANCE GUIDELINES

Professional Requirements:

·  All candidate meetings are MANDATORY

·  Initiation is MANDATORY

·  Professional Hour Requirements

o  12 hours/5 may be non-BAP

Service Requirements:

·  Service Hour Requirements

o  8 hours/3 may be non-BAP

Social Requirements

o  5 BAP events

FAILURE TO MEET ANY OF THESE REQUIREMENTS WILL RESULT IN AN INABILITY TO INITIATE!!

PROPER APPLICATION PROCEDURE

1.  Complete and bring the attached Membership Application Form and GPA Verification Form to your scheduled interview.

2.  You must pay the $100 (nonrefundable) initiation fee. The initiation fee is to cover expenses paid to the National Beta Alpha Psi Administration, as well as certain banquets, programs, and social events throughout the year. Please make checks payable to Beta Alpha Psi. Please note that after the initial fee of $100, there will be an active member fee for each semester thereafter. It will be $20 for a semester and will roll over each semester the professional, service, and social requirements are met. On a member’s last semester, the $20 active member fee will be reimbursed.

Bring $100 Cash or check to 1st Professional Meeting. If you do not bring payment at this time, you will not be able to join!

The college office will verify the information that you provide on the attached application as quickly as possible.
