Welcome Home Team Initiatives 2016

Recruitment

  • Implement employment recruitment advertising and marketing diversity initiatives within brochures, publications, Website and news features that reflect a diverse faculty, staff and student population.
  • Work with Alumni Relations to obtain recruitment recommendations and referrals of diverse alumni for available campus job postings.
  • Increased number of diverse student organizations.
  • Ensure diverse membership of the Belmont Ambassadors, Bruin Recruiters and other student organizations including a group focused on graduate students and utilize these groups in recruitment.
  • Establish partnerships for ACT prep sessions and college prep and access programs (Belmont Distinguished Scholars/100 Kings) targeted to diverse MNPS students
  • Acquire new prospective leads of regional diverse students from ACT/SAT
  • Annual survey to new faculty and admitted students for feedback on their recruitment experience
  • Consult with search committees to ensure understanding of appropriate hiring and interview processes including Belmont’s affirmative action goals.
  • Consultation regarding civil rights and diversity related policies
  • Attend the Compact for Faculty Diversity conference
  • Maintain HR website with “Why work at Belmont?” testimonials
  • Conduct workshops and climate surveys, obtain training and engage in service initiatives to ensure understanding of Belmont’s commitment to diversity.
  • Identify diverse speakers and invite diverse audience representatives to participate in campus events.
  • Offer scholarships and provide financial aid support and guidance i.e. Community, Bridges to Belmont, Ingram, Rose Park and Hearst Scholarships

Retention

  • Require diversity training for faculty and staff.
  • Offer diversity focused events and programs to the Belmont community.
  • Conduct workshops and climate surveys, obtain training and engage in service initiatives to ensure understanding of Belmont’s commitment to diversity.
  • Support and partner with diverse student groups and organizations.
  • Partner with department leaders to highlight and promote internally stories that reflect Belmont’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Form a faculty cohort group which will provide an opportunity to focus on a full-range of academic issues for all members of the cohort.
  • Identify diverse speakers and invite diverse audience representatives to participate in campus events.

Engagement

  • Support the university’s “supplier diversity program” to mutually benefit minority and women owned business and Belmont.
  • Community relations initiatives to build relationships that attract diverse faculty, staff and students
  • Encourage faculty and staff to serve on diverse community and government boards and organizations
  • Partner with department leaders to highlight and promote externally stories that reflect Belmont’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Meet with local media outlets that target diverse audiences to discuss partnership and advertising opportunities.
  • Partner with HR individuals at local institutions to discuss recruitment and retention best practices.
  • Identify sponsorship events/opportunities and co-host community meetings on campus.
  • Establish partnerships for ACT prep sessions and college prep program (Belmont Distinguished Scholars) targeted to diverse MNPS students
