Welcome!Bienvenue!

Dear 3rd graders and parents,

Welcome to the start of your 3rd grade year! I’m excited to get to know you and for you to get to know me. This year your child, your family and I will have many adventures in reading, writing and word study. Each child will grow both academically and socially, learning and challenging himself or herself with the teacher’s and parents’ help and guidance.

First, let me tell you a little about myself. My husband and I live in Apple Valley, Minnesota with our son Jack (5) and our daughter Kate (2). I speak French to Jack and Kate at home and my husband speaks English. As a family we’ve had fun this summer going on walks, playing at the park, swimming at the beach and camping and traveling to Cape Cod. I also enjoy running, basket making, scrapbooking, reading, and playing the guitar.

I graduated in 1997 from St. CloudStateUniversity with teaching degrees in both Elementary Education and K-12 French. I have a Master’s Degree with an emphasis in Gifted Education from Saint Mary’s University. Most recently I have been doing post graduate work specializing in Reading at HamlineUniversity.

I teach because children and helping them learn are my passion. This will be my 12th year teaching. I’ve taught middle school French, 5th grade (in English), 3rd grade (in French) and this is my second year teaching in the 3rd grade English classroom. Year twelve is a great place to be in a teaching career because I can combine experience with the excitement of new ideas that come up each year to make a dynamic classroom.

I’m looking forward to working with you throughout the year as part of a triangle of support for your child. This triangleof parents, child and teacher, ensures that your child will grow, learn, feel success and be happy. During the 12 years I’ve been teaching, I’ve found that this triangle of support is the most invaluable tool we can give our children.Together, with open, understanding communication, there is nothing too daunting! It will be a fabulous year!

If you have any questions throughout the year, or if you have something that you’d like to discuss about your child, please don’t hesitate to contact me. You have my school email and phone number and my home phone number for “emergencies”. I will contact you as things come up throughout the year as well.

Sincerely,

Mme Laura Hanson
