Table Top Sale

Welcome back to everyone after the summer break. Our first fund raising event this term will be a Table Top Sale on the 14th November at Scout HQ in Orchard Drive. The sale starts at 11am.with early viewing from 10.30.

The sale works along the same lines as a car boot sale. Table hire costs £5 with a refundable deposit of £5. We have a limited number of tables so pre booking is advised. Please contact Anthea Hunter on 01923 282377 to book a table.

We would like all our scouting families to come along and support this event on the day. Please look out for more details after half term.

Summer Activities

Village Day

This was a great success. We banked an amazing total of £718.20. Even with deductions for the cost of food this is a record breaking amount and I would like to thank everyone who came along and helped either with setting up and clearing away or preparing and selling our wonderful bacon rolls. It was great to see so many new faces.

Summer Camps

Cubs and Scouts enjoyed their summer camps. I am grateful to Dave Martin and Rob Cunnings for the following reports.

Falcons at Herts. 100

The big event this summer was the Herts. 100 camp at Tolmers in June which celebrated a 100 years of scouting in Hertfordshire. We had 15 cubs on our first cub camp for a long time and it was my first as organiser.

The camp had 100 activities and some 2500 beavers, cubs and scouts attending. Favourite activities included bb guns, archery, laser tag and air rifle shooting. The feed back from the cubs has been “Fantastic!” “Best camp ever!” “Great food!” Talking of food - making angel delight in the washing up bowl went down so well that we had to make a second bowl.

I would like to thank Sue Eltringham, Llewellyn Watkins, and Michael Ponsford for helping with the camp and also all the parents who helped to load and unload the kit. (Dave Martin)

Scout Camp Walesby

Thirteen scouts and five leaders turned up at the Scout Hut on a Saturday morning to load up the scout mini bus, ready for our summer camp at Walesby in the New Forest. We were joined by a further two scouts later in the week. The scouts spent the week cooking and eating in patrols. This, for some of the scouts this was a first. The leaders, report that all the food was “at least edible.” We spent the week doing many different activities including climbing, archery, rifles, raft building, body boarding, pioneering, an assault course and a zip wire. We also had a hike and a spent a day at RAF Cranwell, swimming and meeting Richard’s mother for fish and chips. All the scouts gained their Basic Aviation Skills badge from the visit to RAF Cranwell. A fantastic time was had by both scouts and leaders over the week and I just want to say a massive thank you to Richard for organising it. Roll on Lochearnhead next year. (Rob Cunnings)

Look out for information on these events this term.
