Student Christmas Project a Great Success
The student Christmas project this year gathered more than enough money to meet all projects and then some. Not only did the students purchase a stocked fish pond for a third world village, but they also sent a pair of goats and 8 ducks. The impact of these animals should not be underestimated. While many families depend on chickens, the floods in some areas wiped out entire flocks; chickens don’t do well in too much water. By replacing some of these lost flocks with ducks, the students have given these families “storm-proof” egg sources. I can tell you that duck eggs are larger and richer than chicken eggs and are wonderful for baking. Goats, too, are ideal for struggling families. While cows take a great deal of feed and water and can be rather picky about what they need, goats can make do with a much lower quality feed and still produce milk. Furthermore, goats produce more offspring each year while a cow can only have 1 or possibly 2 calves a year.
Not only will the organization provide the animals, but it will also supply training, feed and veterinary supplies for the animals. The VCA gift will help families become more self-sufficient for the long haul. Thank you to all of the parents and other stakeholders who donated towards this project.
