Welcome Back:

Meeting call to order by Mr. Cornell. Introduction of all attendees, including Community School Director, Matt Aufrey.

Community School:

Introduction of the new initiative, a 5 year grant from Creative Connection. Coaches will push-in at each grade level and the goal is to prepare them for college and career. For example, for the 12th class of Ms. Cahill, the focus of discussion is college application and career program that seniors can explore. Coaches are available in and out of class to service students’ needs. Information sessions as well as workshop will be facilitate by Creative Connection for PTA nights. Mr. Cornell suggested that one way to help parents is educating parents so they can go back to school, teach them how to use computer, or refresh their resume.

Health for Youth, by Heather Butts, will address younger students who are not qualified to work. These students will do volunteer/community service.

Other school news:

-Recruitment started on 9/16 and 9/17 at Citywide HS Fair.

-Free lunch is now available to all students. Lunch forms are still required of all students because this is the method used to determine Title I Fund. Parents failure to complete lunch forms can result loss of $400,000 which can jeopardize the quality of education for students.

-Portfolio Night will continue for parents to work with student to build portfolio for college application usually required by colleges.

-Freshmen after-school project – Two Battles, Fight Breast Cancer and Stop Domestic Violence

-SAT Prep by New York Cares - every junior should apply. Our school has the highest SAT scores in campus

Parent Concerns:

PTA’s goal is to continue fundraising during different school events that attract parents such as Parent Teacher Conference. They will discuss during their 1st PTA meeting how to raise additional money for PTA fund as well as how to use the fund. Some suggestion: flea market.

Student Concerns:

R. Huggins, 11th grader, expressed concern about computers in Chemistry class. Some of the computers have missing keys.

Students are also looking into re-designing the school logo to sell T-shirts for junior fundraising.

Meeting adjourned at 7:00 PM
