Job purpose
Working in conjunction with the relevant Year Lead(s), Clinical Module Leads and others, and drawing widely on the experience and assistance of clinical staff, to design and implement end of year assessment(s)that reflect the breadth of the clinical curriculum, and tooversee the marking process in liaison with other colleagues.
Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities / % Time
Developspecified assessments and supplementary opportunitiesand ensure that these are blue printed against other assessments / 30%
Create new questions or stations with the support of other staff and draw upon, maintain and contribute to an archive for future use / 20%
Work with the exams and assessment team to ensure that material is ready in a timely fashion such that it can be reviewed by the external examiners in advance and assist the Director of UG Assessmentsby liaising with external examiners regarding these assessments before during and after the exam period / 10%
Work in conjunction with the Year Lead(s) and clinical module leads to ensure that appropriate and relevant material is assessed and be an active member of the relevant Year steering/assessment group(s) and assessment working group(s) / 10%
Liaise with colleagues in Kassel to ensure all assessment items are appropriate for students enrolled on the BM(EU) programme / 5%
Ensure that appropriate standard setting and blueprinting procedures are completed (in liaison with the Director of UG Assessments) / 5%
Convene, facilitate and oversee the marking process for these assessments including liaison with other colleagues / 5%
As a member of the academic assessment team to contribute to examining in and/or marking of other assessments within the Faculty as time permits / 5%
Any other duties that fall within the scope of the post as allocated by the Associate Dean or Director of UG Assessmentsfollowing consultation with the post holder. / 10%

The post holder would be a key member of the exams and assessment team, the post holder would need to develop and foster some key relationships in the course of their role:
  • Director of UG Assessments
  • Chair of the Taught Programmes Assessment Committee
  • Chair of the non-clinical & clinical assessment working groups
  • Years Lead(s) as appropriate
  • Exams and assessment administration team
  • BM4, BM5 and BM6 Programme Leads as appropriate

Special Requirements
Evaluating
In conjunction with the Director of UG Assessments the post holder would be expected to liaise with the external examiners and to contribute to the response to the external examiners’ report
  • The post holder will be expected to give feedback to students who fail the assessment(s) and/or to address concerns that students may express over the conduct of the exam(s).
  • The post holder will be expected to respond to examiner feedback where appropriate.
  • The post holder will be expected to consider examiner and student feedback as well as psychometric data (with the support of the Director of UG Assessmentsto consider how specific items need to be improved for future use.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience / Extensive track record of achievement within clinical roles
Track record of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level
Track record of assessing medical students in the clinical environmentincluding extensive experience of writing OSCE stations for candidates at undergraduate Year 3 level
Teaching qualification (PCAP or equivalent experience)
PhD or equivalent experience in a field related to medical education or assessment
Emergent reputation in Medical education
Knowledge of assessments within medical education
Experience of assessments within medical education
Track record of developing and implementing successful assessments within medical education / Membership of Higher Education Academy
Involvement in national and international events
Post CCT (certificate of completion of training) experience or equivalent / Interview / application
Planning and organising / Proven ability to be able to plan and organise multiple projects of work in a self-directed manner
Proven ability to plan and shape the direction of an area of teaching or assessment activity, ensuring plans complement broader education strategy
Able to contribute to the development of teaching policy within the Academic Unit / Proven ability in the design of new course units, assessments, curriculum development and innovative teaching approaches, taking primary responsibility for their quality
Problem solving and initiative / Able to develop significant new concepts and original ideas within own field in response to intractable issues of importance to the teaching area
Management and teamwork / Proven ability to coach, advise and support others (staff and students) on learning and teaching issues.
