  • FAFSA: Students should continue working to complete the Free Application for Federal StudentAssistance (FAFSA). Remember, the FAFSA is the starting point for nearly all financial assistance with your college costs. Any student planning to attend college, needs to apply for financial aid through FAFSA.ed.gov NOW.
  • Bring in your college acceptance letters as you receive them. We want to display the colleges that our seniors have been accepted to. Also, bring in any recognitions or scholarship award information to your guidance counselor so you can be recognized during Senior Awards.

Listed below, are the Scholarships currently available. You should apply for all scholarships for which you meet eligibility requirements! Please check our website frequently for updates.

  • Harold McKnight Memorial Scholarship: $1,000 scholarship awarded to a senior from Mecklenburg, Union, Gaston, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Lincoln, Stanly, Anson, or Montgomery counties that has been accepted into an engineering program. Application Deadline is April 30th. See your guidance counselor for an application.
  • Amity Club of Mount Gilead Scholarship: This is a $1,000 scholarship awarded to a senior, living in the Mount Gilead district. Come by guidance department for an application. Application Deadline is April 26th.
  • NCAEOP Scholarship: 8 different scholarships available ranging from $1,200 to $200. Recipients will be awarded based on academics, initiative, and financial need. Applications are available in the guidance department. The application must be typed and can be accessed online at Beginning on page 6 of the application, you can type your information in online and print it out. Application Deadline is April 30th.
  • FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship: $500.00 scholarship to an EMHS or WMHS graduate, with a minimum 3.0 GPA planning to pursue a career in the health care profession. Applications are available in the guidance department. Application Deadline is April 26th.
  • UNC-Greensboro Guarantee:Tuition assistance, academic support /resources for qualifying students. Must be accepted to UNC-G, be NC resident, demonstrate academic promise, and enroll full-time in Fall 2013. All applicants must complete the FAFSA. Apply at: guarantee.uncg.edu Click on Apply to the Guarantee; fill out online application.
  • Signet Classics Student Scholarship Essay Contest, $1,000. Essays must be submitted by a high school English teacher on behalf of students who write an essay on one of five topics for this year's competition book 1984 by George Orwell.   • Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute: $2,500. The mission of CHCI Scholarship Program is to provide critical financial assistance that will increase graduation rates among Latino students in post-secondary education.Must be Latino US citizen or permanent resident; plan to attend 2-year or 4-year college/university in fall; demonstrate financial need, strong writing skills and active participation in community service activities.   • North Carolina High School Athletic Association: Various scholarships for high school athletes. Visit website: Click on Scholarships for scholarships, eligibility requirements and deadlines.
  • Norah Morris Memorial Scholarship Endowment : For students entering college who have participated in equestrian activity. Applications available at Applications must be received in Raleigh by the Deadline : April 20, 2013.
  • Peter S. Slomianyj Scholarship: For Subway employees or children of Subway employees who have worked at least 1,000 hours over the past 12 months. Students must have at least 2.0 GPA. Applications available online at: Applications must be received in the Chapel Hill office by April 13, 2013.
  • National Co-op Scholarship Program : (must attend one of 7 universities listed on website - Johnson and Wales is a local one)
  • State Employees Association of NC: Is your mom or dad a state employee/retiree and a SEANC member? Are you a SEANC member? If so, you may be eligible to apply for a SEANC scholarship.Scholarships are awarded in the following categories:
    CATEGORY I: Financial Need
    CATEGORY II: Merit
    CATEGORY III: Member Only(working full time and enrolled in at least 6 semester hours of undergraduate work or 3 semester hours of graduate work)
    DEADLINE: SEANC scholarshipapplicationsare available from December to April each year. The deadline to apply is April 15.YOU MUST BE LOGGED IN TO THE SITE IN ORDER TO ACCESS THE APPLICATIONS. For more information go to:
  • NC State Employees Credit Union “People Helping People” Scholarship: $2,500 renewable for 4 years of undergraduate study. Must be US citizen and NC resident, must have at least a 2.5 GPA, demonstrate character, leadership, integrity and community involvement. Students must plan to attend one of the 16 UNC universities. You must write an essay on how you have exemplified the People Helping People philosophy. Applications are available in Guidance. The WMHS Scholarship Committee will select the recipient. Applications should be returned to Guidance by the close of school on April 12th, 2013.
  • North Carolina Society of Accountants Scholarship: If you plan on a career in accounting, a $600 scholarship is available. Applications are in the guidance department. Application Deadline is April 15th, 2013.
  • Medical 180 Scholarship Program: $1,000. For high school seniors who plan to attend college in Fall, 2013 for at least 12 credit hours. Must be under doctor’s care for spina bifida, spinal cord injury, or transverse myelitis. Apply at: Application Deadline: June 1, 2013
  • NC Strawberry Association Scholarship:The intent of this scholarship is to promote future leadership in the strawberry industry. The scholarship is open to high school seniors applying, accepted to, or currently enrolled in a land grant university, interested in or having declared a major in a program of study directly related to the strawberry industry (For example, small fruit production, marketing, food science, nutrition, entomology, agronomy, etc). Two Scholarship Awards of $1000 each are offered for 2013. For more information visit The deadline for applications is May 1, 2013.
  • Beverly Lake Scholarship Endowment: North Carolina high school graduates who are eligible for membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans or the United Daughters of the Confederacy and pursuing a degree at an institution of higher learning.   • Norah Morris Memorial Scholarship Endowment: An individual entering college or continuing college education who has participated in equestrian activity. For more information, visit . Application Deadline is April 30th, 2013.
