Welcome 5Th Graders! We Are So Very Excited to Be Your Teachers This School Year

Welcome 5th Graders! We are so very excited to be your teachers this school year.

We are going to have a wonderful adventurelearning together.

Classroom Rules: In addition to The Leader in Me, 7 Habits, and PBIS. We will be working with the students to develop specific classroom rules during the first few days of school.

Agenda: Every child will manage an agenda in which they will record homework and important information. This agenda will be kept in their AVID binder. We will both check and initial agendas daily to ensure that they are filled out correctly. We ask that you sign your child’s agenda nightly confirming that their homework has been completed. Your child’s agenda is a very effective way for us to communicate with each other. The agenda will be kept in the AVID binder.

Student Work : Work will be returned in a timely manner and will be stored in the appropriate subject area in the AVID binder. Work should not be discarded from the binder. It will be removed periodically.

Grades: All students are given many opportunities throughout the school day to get their work completed and corrected. The Parent Portal is a great way to view your child’s progress. If you don’t already have an account please let us know and we will make sure you have the information to sign up. Please note that we are unable to grade assignments if they are not turned in to us. If an assignment is more than 5 school days late from its original due date it will be recorded as a zero.

Homework: Homework will not be assigned on a regular basis. We expect any unfinished classwork to be completed as homework.

Students will have weekly Spelling and Math quizzes so they will be expected to prepare for those recurring assignments. In addition, there will be multiple online programs for your student to access and practice skills that need improvement. More information about those programs will be passed along as the year progresses.

Snacks: Students will be allowed time for a small nutritious snack each morning. We also encourage bringing a water bottle to use in the classroom. Other beverages will not be allowed in the classroom. No Gum Please.

Technology: 5th grade students will be issued their 1:1 Laptops following the information session

September 12th. We expect that laptops will be charged nightly. If students are not prepared they will not be able to access the necessary work at school and will need to complete assignments at home.
