Explorers Facebook Project – 50 point project

You will be assigned an explorer from the Early Age of Exploration. Your task will be to construct a Facebook page for an Early European Explorer. (NOTE: DO NOT construct an actual online account). You may use the power point template or construct a poster to present your information

Possible Topics:

-  Vasco da Gama - Jacques Cartier

-  Christopher Columbus - Samuel de Champlain

-  Ferdinand Magellan - Juan Ponce de Leon

-  Hernan Cortez - Amerigo Vespucci

-  Francisco Pizarro - Sir Francis Drake

-  Prince Henry “The Navigator” - Sir Walter Raleigh

-  Pedro Cabral - Hernando de Soto

-  John Cabot - Vasco de Balboa

-  Giovanni da Verrazano - Bartolomeu Dias

-  Henry Hudson - Francisco Vasquez de Coronado

Requirements - Your Display Must Include:

·  Profile photo of the Explorer.

·  Include Network to which the explorer belongs (this would be their home country)

·  Basic biography information: birthday, relationship status, religious views, sex, hometown

·  At least 5 posts to or from your explorer on theWall. These comments and posts should reflect your explorer’s journey and important events in their lives

o  Why the explorer feels they will have “Glory”. Remember you are trying to make yourself look great.

o  Motivations for Exploring

o  Important events/discoveries

o  At least two of your posts must have comments from one of your friends or a Native American

·  6 Friends (and photos) under the friends section. This can be other explorers or people they encounter on their expedition. Also, irony is allowed. Maybe someone who wouldn’t have really been the explorers’ friend, but someone they knew.

·  Activities Section and Interests Section. Be creative here! Think about what activities and interests an explorer would participate in. You must think of Activities, Interests, Favorite Music, Favorite TV Shows (Ex. Lost), and Favorite Books

·  Education and Work Section. Fill in the Employer (who is funding the expedition), Position, and Time Period they worked.

·  Groups. Create at least 2 groups that the explorer would be in. Be creative with the names. They can be official groups, like clubs the explorer is in, or something funny (and appropriate) relating to the explorer’s ideas, opinions, etc.

·  Contact Information . Make up an email address and phone number for your person.

·  Extra Credit:

More Posts and Comments. The best way to make your Facebook come alive is to create an interactive experience. The more posts you add along with comments will make your Facebook seem more “real”.

o  Photo Album: You may create a photo album (see the template) about your explorer’s life, journey, and time in the New World.
