HEAD TEACHER’S THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK

Welcome back. It has been an interesting start to the new school year! The ongoing (and over-running) building work has meant a few changes to our usual routines but everyone is coping well so far - thank you for your patience. As you know, we can't offer hot meals for the next few weeks but the sandwich lunches are delicious. It will all be worth it when our state of the art new school kitchen opens later this term.
As explained in the letter sent to all parents at the end of last year, for HEALTH and SAFETY reasons we are trying to reduce the number of large bags and rucksacks being brought into school - we simply don't have the space. At the risk of sounding like an official from Ryanair, in future all bags should fit into the child's classroom tray. Reading Book bags are ideal (the satchel type will be available from Ziggy's in the next couple of weeks.) Obviously we will make an exception if a child has an after school activity that requires additional kit and clothing eg: playing for the football team/outdoor activities. Thank you for your support in this matter.
The children have settled in really well and, as always, their appearance is a credit to you and to the school - THANK YOU.

PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT

This year's Parent Information Night will be held on Thursday 14th September. It is a great opportunity to hear how, working together, we can ensure a successful year for your child at St Stephen's and to visit your child's classroom to listen to the Class Teacher give a presentation about the work the children will cover and their plans for the coming year.
7.00 p.m. - Welcome and presentation from the Head Teacher
7.30 p.m. - In Years 1- 6 this is a chance to meet your child's new Class Teacher and to hear about the areas of work to be covered and plans for the year ahead so you can help your child make the most of their time at school.

READING BOOKS IN SCHOOL

We consider reading at home to be very important for the progress of the children across the curriculum and we value your support in encouraging your children to read as much as possible at home. Therefore, we would like to remind you of the procedures in school regarding reading books. Children's books are changed twice weekly on regular set days, which the children are aware of. RECEPTION CLASS INFORMATION

Due to the current building work we would like to inform our Reception Class parents of the change when entering and leaving school. In the morning the children will line up in the playground by the Jungle Book mural in their appropriate line until the Reception Team arrive. While the building work is ongoing, Reception Class will finish their school day at 3.00 p.m. Please can you collect your child at the Year 1 entrance just past the Jungle Book mural.
