Monday 1/16/17 / School Closed MLK Day
Tuesday 1/17/17 / Reading: Getting to Know Characters. 30-40 minutes of reading. Fill in your reading log. Remember that readers predict the lesson that the book will teach. Try out the preview work we did in class today and jot down what lesson the story might tell and explain how you know. Use the following sentence starter:
“This seems like the kind of story that will teach you…”
Writing: Narrative Writing. This week, our goal is to bring our characters to life by including details, talk, and action. As you begin a new piece make sure you are including details (descriptions, actions), talk (characters talking back and forth to each other/conversations), and actions. Your piece is due on Friday.
Word Study: -ur words. Read the –ur word list. Add 5 other –ur words to the list.
Math: Short Response #1.
Wednesday 1/18/17 / Reading: Getting to Know Characters. 30-40 minutes of reading. Fill in your reading log. Remember that readers notice how all the characters in stories grow and change. Tonight, play close attention to how the characters act across the whole story. How have they changed? (their thinking, feelings, actions)

Math: Short Response #2
Word Study: Count out the number of syllables in each word and draw lines to divide the word into its syllable parts.
Thursday 1/19/17 / Reading: Getting to Know Characters. 30-40 minutes of reading. Fill in your reading log. Remember that readers reread the ending of stories to understand the meaning. Tonight, reread the ending of a story you have finished reading and jot down what the story was all about and what lesson the story teaches.
