National Priorities: Impacts of Water Conservation on Water Quality in Premise Plumbing and Water Distribution Systems

Open Date: 02/01/2016 - Close Date: 03/17/2016

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announces the release of the National Priorities: Impacts of Water Conservation on Water Quality in Premise Plumbing and Water Distribution Systems Request for Application

As consumers become more aware of the need for water conservation, they are decreasing water consumption which has led to lower flows of water being conveyed in water systems and buildings designed to manage higher flows. These lower flows, in turn, influence water quality, costs, energy consumption, and public health. In an effort to address these issues, EPA is issuing this Request for Applications (RFA) to investigate the effect of water flow on water quality and to provide the public with tools and information to optimize water and energy conservation while minimizing adverse effects on public health and the environment.

This RFA is supported by EPA’s Safe and Sustainable Water Source (SSWR) research program. Congress appropriates funding for National Priorities extramural research grants and requires that National Priorities grants be used for extramural research independent of the STAR grant program.
