Letter from the teacher

o  If you did not have a chance to send in all three of your MCN items by Friday last week, please make every effort to get everything turned in by THIS Friday. Again, if you misplace your “Gift in Kind Silent Auction Donation form”—let me know and I will send home another one. Some have asked if you may send $25 cash as the donation—absolutely, it will be put to GREAT USE! You will still need to submit the form for accounting purposes.

o  The “Book Order Form” for our superhero book will be sent home this week. The signed form needs to be returned by Friday, 3/31. You ARE NOT obligated to purchase the book—but I DO need EVERY form signed and returned. There will be a copy donated to the school library so the children will always be able to view it while they are at SEAS. The purpose of the project has been to teach the kids the process of being authors and illustrators and the importance of quality. I think you will be extremely impressed with the quality of writing and illustrations that were done by FIRST GRADERS!

o  *The WCEA(Western Catholic Education Association)team will be on campusWednesday,ThursdayandFriday. The school will be going through the accreditation process that is required for all Catholic schools every 6 years. We (teachers and staff) have been preparing for this visit for about a year and half. The visiting team will be in and out of classrooms and around campus during their visit, looking over materials and may even ask the teachers and students questions.

o  *You'll be seeing a lot of math fact worksheets coming home--that is in preparation of second grade and the timed math fact quizzes the kids will be doing.

o  *You will also be seeing "Review Spelling Quizzes" coming home. I will be randomly selecting 20 sightwords at a time that we have already learned and testing the kids--it's to assess their retention of learned words. The first quiz was an eye-opener for the students, they were SHOCKEDthey had to remember earlier words.
