Web Design – Spring 2014

Final Exam

Purpose:

To test your understanding of web site design, SharePoint Designer/Dreamweaver, JavaScript, and the use of the Internet in creating a four page website.

Assignment:

You will create a four page website centered around the destination of Fiji in the South Pacific. You will be given four banners to use for this site, and you must create four web pages that follow the theme of the banners. The banners are saved on Franz’s teacher site -

The first banner, titled “It’s the little things in life,” must be used for the first page of your site. On this page you should find your navigational structure to the other three pages (accommodations, activities, cuisine, you must link to all 4, including the home page). Make sure to create a sharp looking website, as this final exam will be graded as much to form/design as it is to function/completion. The first page should also give some general information about Fiji as a destination, and should capture the attention and imagination of those looking at the site. When you are finished with this page you should be able to say to yourself, “This looks sharp – I want to go to Fiji!”

The second-fourth banners should be used for pages related to accommodations, activities, and cuisine. It is up to you how you want to structure these pages, but they should be similar in structure and design to the homepage. There doesn’t need to be a vast amount of information on them, but it should be apparent where you are headed and what it would look like if you had 10 days to work on this. Make sure each page has links to all other pages, making it easy to navigate.

Saving Files:

You must save all your files, including your pictures, to the Final Exam folder on Shared/Franz – Web Design. Make sure you create a folder with your last name on it and place all your files in that folder. I would suggest having me look at your site to make sure it works before you say that you are finished.

Grading:

It will be graded on a split between the design of your pages and the content of your pages.

Design / Content
85-100 / Followed design principles, created professional looking site, followed theme of banners, created sharp navigational structure / Completed all 3 pages, possibly a fourth, used pictures that were not blurry, had enough content to discern where the creator would be going if more time were allowed
70-84 / Followed some design principles, site adequate but not professional or navigational structure was not sharp / Did not complete at least 3 pages, used blurry pictures, did not have enough content to discern where the design was going with the site
50-69 / Did not follow design principles, poor navigational structure /not professional / Did not complete at least 3 pages, used blurry pictures,
49 and under / Unacceptable work / Unacceptable work
