Singapore ASCD is proud to include Dr Ong Ai Choo to our pool of facilitators for Teacher’s Professional Development. Dr Ong has more than 25 years in teacher education and educational staff development. She was assistant professor at the National Institute of Education; associate professor at Hong Kong Institute of Education, acting head of Learning, Teaching and Technology Centre, and head of Outcomes based Unit, HKIED; and educational development specialist at Singapore Polytechnic.

Now an Education Consultant, Dr Ong conducts workshops for teachers and students in Singapore and Hong Kong, and was part of an international consultant team to Branco-Weiss Institute, Israel, in the area of social-emotional learning to youths at risk Dr Ong’s teaching and research interests are in thinking skills and social emotional learning. She is also author and co-editor of the book, Teaching Strategies that Promote Thinking.

This November, Dr Ong is presenting the above new workshop in an area of need for teachers. Current trends in assessment focus on judging students’ learning progress - not just how well they perform in the traditional summative evaluations. Assessment of students on how well they progress along the learning journey is a perspective that is underpinned by the belief that learning should be developed and assessed through various forms of formative assessment forlearning and assessment of learning. Assessment in the affective areas poses a challenge to many teachers - how do they know that their students have learnt and are growing in the affective domain?
