WEATHER STEALS HEADLINES, YET AGAIN, AT HAWARDEN!

The Varsity Boys Team nabbed themselves 4th place overall in the Team Race with 115 points, on a day that saw 8 teams No-Show due to nerves in windy conditions. Everyone knows though, they were really scared of running into Stars. Connor Coyle led the way, taking 21st in 19:50 with a throbbing ankle. Ko Noble seems to be either healing well or just toughing through the pain, as he was the second finisher for the Stars, 22nd in 20:15. Daniel Folchert didn’t enjoy the winds too much. So much so that he didn’t even pay attention to them. He wound up 23rd in 20:35. Gage Martin and PJ Poe rounded out the day for the Stars, taking 24th and 25th respectively, in 21:08 and 21:15. The Stars were without Captain Brandon Geary, who was held out due to concussion symptoms. Geary could be heard cheering from Hawarden to Sioux Center.

Paige Noble continues to be a woman on a mission! Determination is her driving force! Paige knocked out yet another season best time, taking 16th in 17:41. Danyalle Twohig is starting to realize the importance of finding her own race. She makes adjustments and moves forward, showing that she is and will continue to be someone to be reckoned with! Twohig ran 18:17 for 18th place. Jasmin Ruelas’ consistency is absolutely mind blowing! Seriously, who is this girl!?? Ruelas had a wake up call during last year’s USD Indoor Track Meet, where after her “not so good races” she came up to Coach Marrero and said, “Now I see why I have to work hard in practices.” Since that moment, Jasmin Ruelas has been an absolute treasure, filled with constant improvement and personal best times in nearly everything she does! Ruelas popped out a 19th place performance in 18:18. Nayelie Valenzuela has realized that she really can overpower her pain and she can be in control of her emotions and her race, no matter what she is dealing with! Valenzuela continues to improve with her 24th place time of 18:28, a new season best time and yet another sub 18:30 race. Susana Gonzalez stepped up for the Stars, knowing that with certain absences the Team would not have been able to score. Susana has been a breath of fresh air for the Stars, as she continues to own the sub-20 mark, taking 26th in 19:51. The ladies continue to close the gap on the Wolverines, taking 4th with 103 points, without Captain Jessie Motley who was ill with mono-like symptoms, and Linh Phan who was fulfilling volunteer duties.

JV RACES FLOODED WITH SEASON BEST TIMES!

EIGHT of the TENseason best times set at this meet came from the JV races! Miguel Delgado led the way for the JV Boys, taking his first Top-10 finish with a 9th place 20:43. He led a massive pack of Stars, where Brandon Hundley was the next Star across the tape in a 12th place time of 20:44. Jacob Fuller grunted the race of his life, yet again, taking 13th in 20:46. Christian Cervantes still starts out strong, and held it longer than he has before, held on to the pack and found himself taking 15th in 20:55. All four runners went under 21-minutes for the first time this season! Alex Torno was very close behind, charging through the course and crushing his previous bet time, taking 18th place in 21:25. Riley Foix also ran tough, taking 21st in 22:09, narrowly missing out on breaking the 22 minute mark. The JV Boys took 3rd place, a mere 13 points behind Heelan. Amanda Delzell ran the first JV race since her Freshman Year’s Heelan Invite and Le Mars Invite, completing the 3rd JV race of her career. She took 14th place in a season best time of 19:24. Allyson Fly added to the season best mix, taking 34th in 22:30. Thi Huynh took 39th in 24:23 and Kelsey Wright went under 28 minutes for the second time this season, taking 43rd in 27:56! Her best time this year came at Carroll…seriously, Carroll??? Wright can’t wait until next week’s MRAC meet in Council Bluffs.
