Basic Truth: God made me.

Key Question: Who can do what God wants you to do?

Bottom Line: I can do what God wants me to do.

Memory Verse:“God made us to do good works.” Ephesians 2:10, NCV

Bible Story Focus:I can do things God’s way.

Daniel • Daniel 1

Make It True

After children have participated in Make It Fun, tell the Bible story and then encourage the kids to have fun singing with you.

When sharing the Bible story, guide kids to gather around you on the floor. Some kids (especially the younger ones) may wander. That’s OK. They’re still listening and learning!

Worship

What You Need: CD player, this month’s worship song, “I Can Do (What God Wants),” downloaded from the Website, and the motions for the song

LEADER: “Good morning, friends! I’m so excited to see you this morning! We’ve been talking about how Kids Rock! That means you rock (point to child) and you and you and you all rock! All month long we are going to continue to say: [Bottom Line]‘I can do what God wants me to do.’ Let’s learn our new song together.

Lead children in singing “I Can Do (What God Wants).”

“You all did a fabulous job with our new song. It’s so exciting! Now tell me: Who can do what God wants you to do? [Bottom Line] I can do what God wants me to do.”

Bible Story

What You Need:Bible; a tray with plates, cups, plastic meat, bread, and dessert;and a tray with plates, cups, and plastic vegetables

STORYTELLER: “Well, hello, friends! Come over here and sit with me. I have a super awesome TRUE story to tell you straight from the Bible (hold up your Bible) about a man named Daniel. Daniel was chosen to be in a group of men training to work for the king. It was a most special honor. Daniel was chosen along with three of his friends. Count them with me.”

CHILDREN AND STORYTELLER: “One, two, three!”

STORYTELLER: “Yes, three of Daniel’s friends were chosen to come out to the king’s table every day.

(Set the tray with the meat/bread in front of you.)

STORYTELLER: “On the king’s table was the BEST food in all the land. Just look at all this fancy food! (Point.) Wow. I’m getting hungry. Everyone rub your tummy like you’re hungry.(Pause as children follow.)The king would come out and everybody would eat.

“But there was a problem. Daniel and his friends knew that God didn’t want them to eat all that fancy food. And Daniel and his friends always did what God wanted them to do.

STORYTELLER: “So Daniel went to the guard and asked if he and his friends could just eat vegetables and water. But the guard was worried. He told Daniel, ‘The king wants you to be strong and healthy. I’ll get into trouble.’

“So Daniel set up a test. Everyday for 10days, he and his friends did what God wanted them to do and ate only vegetables and water.

(Set the tray with vegetables next to the first tray.)

“Everyone else ate from the king’s table. And at the end of the 10 days, who do you think looked better? The guys who ate from the king’s table (motion to the first tray) or the guys who ate the way God wanted them to eat?(Motion to the second tray.) YES! Daniel and his friends looked better! They ate the way God wanted them to eat and it was the best way! God’s way is always the best way.

“So tell me:Who can do what God wants you to do?”

CHILDREN and STORYTELLER: [Bottom Line] “I can do what God wants me to do.”

STORYTELLER: “Yes, you can! Especially when you ask God for help. Let’s pray!God, thank You for the story of Daniel and how he did what You wanted him to do. We know that we can do what You want us to do, because Your way is the BEST way. We love You. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.”
