Foreword

Welcome to the I heart netball league in Shropshire 2017 – 2018 season, we have had 7 teams enter the league.

Please use this handbook to find all the league rules, constitution, codes of conduct and most importantly your fixtures! Please make sure all your team is aware of the information from the handbook.

Results and players of the match will be published weekly on I heart netball facebook page and also on the Shropshire Netball Associations website.

We look forward to enjoyable, fun and competitive season.

Constitution

Name: I heart netball league Idsall

Aim:The League’s main priority is to provide an opportunity for ladies to participate in more competitive matches in a fun and social environment.

Committee: The League will be governed by the England netball , Hosted by Zoe Stephenson Netball development Community coach.

Discipline: The League will abide by All England Netball rules in regard to both on court and off court behaviour. Anyone not abiding by those rules will be dealt with in line with England Netball policy.

Meetings: Will occur throughout the season if and when needed.

In the event of an extra-ordinary circumstance a meeting will be held and at least 3 members of the Committee must be present as well as those invited members

League Rules

Fees

  1. Match Fees - £25 per game. These match fees should be paid by every team prior to the match.
  2. Deposit of £5 per team due on first night of fixtures.
  3. All teams must be represented at League meetings.

Match Play

  1. A player is allowed to play for another team only once if the team is short of players.
  2. All matches will adhere to normal England Netball playing rules.
  3. All teams should fill in a match card prior to their match with the full name of all players on that night.
  4. Matches will consist of 8 minute quarters.
  5. Matches will start punctually at 8pm , 8.40pm and 9.20pm
  6. A team can only start the match with a minimum of 5 players. If there are less than 5 players at the start of the match the team who are fully present will be given a 1-goal-per-minute advantage for however long the opposing team are late by.
  7. There will be no injury time. In the event of a serious injury the game will be stopped and the injury will be dealt with.
  8. All players to sign players code of conduct on first time match at the league.
  9. All teams are allowed to have a maximum of 2 under 16 in a team for development of players. All under 16 must have parent consent form signed on first match night.

Umpires, Rules and Interpretation

  • All umpires will be of a Beginner into officiating standard or higher.
  • The League will provide all umpires.
  • After each match both umpires will sign the score card and award a player of the match
  • Umpires Please be aware that we may use this league as an opportunity for umpire training, mentoring and testing
  • The umpire’s decision based on their interpretation is final and should be fully respected
  • Verbal abuse of officials, coaches, spectators or participants is not acceptable, and any player or team who is shown displaying such behavior may be asked to leave the league, or concur loss of points.
  • Matches will be played according to the rules set by the International Netball Federation (INF) and the EN Full Domestic Rules Guidance 2016. For information on these rules please refer to England Netball website See Section 15 for information about our Code of Conduct.

Players are asked to read the Code of Conduct for Players and are bound by the standards set out therein, whilst taking part in the I heart netball league. Below is an excerpt from the Code of Conduct for Players which we wish to highlight:

I recognise individuals participate in Netball to achieve and have fun, therefore I will:

  • Recognise the achievements of others and applaud their successes
  • Display modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat; be sporting – whether I win or lose; always acknowledge the other team and the umpires at the end of the game with a hand shake or three cheers
  • Never argue with an official or participant during a game and listen to and cooperate with officials’ decisions
  • Control my temper; I understand that verbal, emotional and physical abuse of officials, coaches, spectators or participants, or deliberately distracting or provoking a participant, coach or official is not acceptable or permitted behaviour in netball

More Information

Affiliation; All players need affiliation and provide there numbers of team sheets

Cancelled Matches

-If you know your team will be unable to attend a fixture please contact Zoe Stephenson ( / 07872407214) as soon as possible so your opposition and the umpires can be informed.

-In the event of a cancelled match, the game it is automatically won by the opposing team. The opposing team will receive 5 points for the win and an average goal difference (which will be calculated upon previous results).

- The team cancelling match will pay £25 fee.

First Aid: All teams should have a basic first aid kit with them at every league night.

Nails: Nails should be no longer than the end of your fingers. Player’s nails will be checked by the umpire at the start of every match.

Jewellery: All jewellery must be removed prior to the match. A wedding ring is the only exception, however this must be fully taped up during match play.

Kit: Bibs will be available to borrow on the night. Please return these to the league desk after your match.

Car Parking: Car parking is available Sports centre car park.

Code of Conduct for Players

England Netball, in its continuing effort to increase the enjoyment of participation in the game of Netball, has introduced a Players Code of Conduct. We ask that all those involved in netball follow these guidelines to ensure that all competitions are played in the best spirit of the game.

Have read and will abided to the rules and terms and conditions set out by the black country league 2017-2018

•Be conversant with and observe the Rules of the Game

•Play fairly, be competitive but not aggressive

•During play, do not question a decision made by the Umpires either by gesture, look, verbally or by commenting to another player

•Give the ball promptly to opponents for throw-ins, penalty shots, free and penalty passes etc.

•Ensure you are in the correct position, indicated by the Umpire, when penalties are set

•Keep your self-control at all times and do not retaliate. Do not use obscene language at any time

•Accept victory modestly and defeat graciously, you are representing your Club which will be judged on your behaviour

•Shake hands with your opponent at the beginning and end of the game

•Give ‘three cheers’ to the opposing team

•Thank the Umpires for officiating your match

•Enjoy your Netball

Spectator Code of Conduct

The Black Country Back to Netball League requires all spectators to adhere to this Code of Conduct.

•Remember players are involved in netball for their enjoyment not yours.

•Honest effort is more important than victory so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment.

•Never ridicule or yell at a player for making a mistake or losing a game.

•Lead by example. Applaud good play by your team and by members of the opposition.

•Do not question the umpire’s decisions or honesty. Remember he/she is only human with the same feelings as you and, like you, can sometimes make an honest error.

•Recognise the importance and value of coaches who are all volunteers.

•Read the rules of netball to understand better what you are watching and commenting on.

•Remember teams are responsible for your behaviour and this can result in you being asked to leave a venue or the team being penalised

•Promote this code of conduct to other spectators
