A SNEAK PEEK AT THE GREAT THINGS YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Working primarily in Burnaby you will plan and implement adult and teen mentoring programs in selected schools as well as support the Big Brothers mentoring program when needed
  • Supervising and monitoring matches between adult and teen volunteer mentors and children to ensure Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada’s National Standards are maintained and the safety of children is upheld
  • Assessing, screening, and training potential teen and adult volunteers
  • Matching adult and teen volunteers with children to ensure positive mentoring relationships are formed
  • Maintaining accurate family and volunteer file records. Ensuring that all required documentation is complete.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with schools in the community
  • Engaging volunteers and families in problem solving processes where required
  • Acting as a liaison between Big Brothers Of Greater Vancouver, community agencies, schools, and stake holders
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of service delivery programs

YOU WILL LIKELY BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree or 2 year diploma in social work, family studies, psychology or other related field.This one is a must-have! It is required by our National Standards.
  • Relevant experience in the social services sector in the Greater Vancouver with Aboriginal children, youth and families, preferably related to mentoring. As well as experience working within a school-based environment.
  • Outstanding knowledge of mentoring theory, principals and practice and child abuse preventions; stellar organizational, time management skills; fantastic ability to work independently with a problem-solving lens and a resourcefulness and resilience that is second to none; superior writing and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal and group facilitation skills.
  • Exceptional networking and relationship building skills with a superior ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and other community agencies and organizations
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office and experience using databases
  • Flexibility is key with this role as some evening and weekend work will be required
  • Based out of our main office in Burnaby
  • Valid driver’s license and access to your own vehicle is needed
