Role – Fundraising (Grant Application) Trustee
Role Summary
The focus of this role is on increasing income streams for Work and Play Scrapstore, in particular monetary grant contributions. This is specifically in the unrestricted grant area, by building relationships and exploring new fundraising opportunities from various sources, in order to help WaP finance the execution of its growth strategy.
Time Commitment
Around 3 hours per week on average, potentially more during the induction period.
Location
The premises are: Work and Play Scrapstore, 13 Blackshaw Road, LondonSW17 0DA, but the role can be undertaken remotely. Attendance at monthly Trustee meetings is at variable locations in South West London.

Role Description
To establish a strategy to make timely applications to charitable trusts and corporate bodies in efforts to obtain local, regional and national grants including:
- Building the internal data-bank of of potential grant givers whose interests are aligned with WaP’s mission and strategy.
- Write the grant applications, working with the Treasurer and other Trustees in order to present the financial needs of WaP.
- Making timely, strong, well-reasoned grant application submissions.
- Responsibility for maintaining current and generating new relationships with grant-givers.
- Responsibility for maintaining records of grants obtained and any restrictions.
- Building and executing an applications submission timeline for 2014 based on grant givers' deadlines and WaP’s current project/financialpriorities.
To act as a fresh pair of eyes to investigate and implement additional methods of income generation (in addition to our current membership and grant funding)such as:
- corporate funding and major donors,
- local businesses, community and fundraising events and activities,
- reaching out to potential supporters through communications and online presence to raise WaP’s profile and awareness of its ethos and activities,
- utilising media channels proactively and reactively to increase WaP’s profile
- advice and assistance on member engagement and recruitment
Person Requirement
- Knowledge and experience of current fundraising finance practice relevant to the Charity Sector, voluntary and community organisations.
- Experience of writing grant applications in the voluntary sector (desirable)
- Energy and enthusiasm.
- Ability to think creatively.
- Collaborative.
- Analytical and detailed.
- Willingness to make the appropriate time and effort commitment.
- An advocate of and passionate about the mission and values of WaP.

Having an experienced fund-raiser who is capable of generating additional income is essential to fulfilling the WaP growth strategy – growing and enhancing our membership, increasing our reach with suppliers, recruitment and retention of a General Manager and Office Manager, growing our Volunteer base and improving our IT capability.
