MVS Cheer 2015-2016

Dear Parents,

We are pleased to offer your child the opportunity to try out for the cheerleading program at Monte Vista. Guidelines and requirements for the team are found below in the body of this letter.

Eligibility Requirements:

Student eligibility will depend on the physical fitness and skills of the students, maintaining a positive attitude and being a positive peer role model, and all students must maintain a 2.0 GPA or better. Students must have the entire Athletic Clearance packet completed, including a medical physical check, before they may practice or cheer with the team.

Note: A completed athletic clearance packet does not guarantee your student a spot on the team, and is only needed if your child is offered a position on the cheer squad.

Program Philosophy:

We welcome all students who meet the requirements. Players should exhibit positive attitudes and support all team members and competitors.

Note: Poor attitudes can result in dismissal from the cheerleading team.

Grades:

Students must maintain a minimum of a 2.0 GPA with at least a “C” grade in every class. They also need to maintain good citizenship. Students may be suspended from games for a period of time due to academic problems though they are not yet ineligible.

Practice Schedule:

Starting Wednesday, November 16th

Practices will be held on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 7:00-8:00 am.

When practice concludes, the students will have time to change in the gym locker room.

Games:

We will be cheering for both the girls and boys basketball teams.

Games are from 4:00 to 6:00 every Tuesday and Thursday.

MVS cheer will only attend Thursday games in December. Starting in January, MVS cheer will attend games on Tuesday and Thursday.

Transportation to Games:

Some cheerleaders will need to carpool; we will need parent drivers to make away game participation a reality. It is imperative that you let the coach know if you child will need transportation in advance. Please let the coach know at least two days in advance if your student needs transportation.

It is against school policy to drive a student unless you have been given permission by our staff and have proper clearance and information on file.

Parent Drivers:

Coach will email parent drivers to confirm availability and then assign them to students. Parent drivers must report to the front office at the designated time, get the list of students you will be driving AND a field trip form for each student, and sign them out with the school secretary. Please do not leave the campus without the paperwork!

If you are driving your own child, go directly to the game with your child; no paperwork needed.

Departure from Meets:

If your child is driving with an approved driver to the game, then you must either meet them at the game location or meet the parent driver at Monte Vista Middle School after the game. Parent drivers are NOT responsible for dropping off students at their home. Your child should call you to let you know what time they will arrive at Monte Vista to ensure that the parent driver is not waiting for you to arrive.

All students will be required to sign in and out at the game. Students must either leave the game with their authorized driver or a parent. Parents must be ready to show identification to the coach.

Uniforms:

Each student should have quality athletic shoes. The uniforms will not be provided by Monte Vista and must be purchased by parents. These are fitted uniforms and cannot be reused as easily as a game jersey. The students will keep their uniforms after the season is completed.

Injuries:

If students is injured during practice and sustains a fall with a head injury, a concussion form and process is required. The students will have to follow this process before returning to practice and games. Please ensure that your player brings water and/or a small snack for after the game.

I am very excited to be coaching your child this season!
