In nursey we have been getting really excited as we count down to Christmas. On Wednesday we watched a short clip about the North Pole (Lapland advert). We then used our white boards to draw everything we could see such as elves, reindeers, snowmen and sleighs. Our teachers were so impressed with our mark making! We were just about to tidy our things away when a special message from Father Christmas appeared on the screen. He knew all about our school and he even had a photograph of us in his big book! We could not believe our eyes! Father Christmas told us that we all need to be sensible and be good boys and girls at home.

We are also enjoying looking after Chippy the Elf. He was sent to us by Father Christmas to make sure we can all go on the good list! However Chippy seems to get up to a lot of mischief during the night. Miss Morgan is thrilled with how much the elf has got us all talking. She said it’s great for our communication and language development. We are now working hard to be good and show chippy how to be sensible in school.

This week in reception we opened santa’s workshop in our construction area. Children have been writing lists of christams wish lists and delivering them to santa’s elves. The elves then had to work harrd to make all of the listed toys. We have also enjoyed lots of lovely christmas and nativity stories. If your child has a favourite Christmas story they are welcome to bring it in and we will rty to share it with the class.

We have also enjoyed reading and watching ‘The Snowman’ by Raymond Briggs. The children were mesmorised by the short film and I would like to spend more time looking at this and focusing some art work and writing around this story. We have a busy week next week with the nativities, class trip and christmas crafts, so we may have to pick this story up again after the Christmas holidays.

Trip to farmer Ted’s – Friday 16th December. Please plan to have your child at school for 8:45am prompt on the morning on the trip so that we can complete registers and toilet trips etc, in time for the coaches. We should be back at school in time for the usual hometime. Children can wear their own warm pants on the trip as we feel that these would be warmer and more waterproof (if necessary) . Tracksuits / fleeces would probably be the best choice with old trainers or wellington boots and a warm waterproof coat, hat and gloves. However we do ask that children wear their school shirt and jumper or cardigan. We will be taking packed lunches for the children and a snack and drinks. Children have already chosen the type of sandwich that they would like on the day. If we are arriving back at school at the time when you are collecting your child, please be aware that I must take all children back into class and dismiss them through the usual door. Please try not to worry too much! We will have a lovely time and all of the adults will be there to ensure your child enjoys the day.

A few children have still not retunred their permission slip for Farmer Ted’s. Please return these as soon as possible.

Thank you to all for taking the time to share the travelling cribs with your child. We have received some lovely photos which we have printed off for the children’s learning journeys. If you have not yet had a crib your child will be bringing one home over the next few days.

This week children should practise their words for the Christmas nativity. If your child is not speaking in the nativity they should spend a little time practising the songs.
