Instructional Materials and Description: Inspire Literacy [iLit] delivers a research-proven instructional model through a groundbreaking mobile instructional system available exclusively online. Students will be provided with an individual username and password. Parents and students can check progress from home 24/7. This intensive program is designed to meet the individual needs of students through a comprehensive, digital core curriculum; iLit will accelerate reading and writing growth specifically for students meeting the placement criteria. iLit uses a gradual release approach. First, the teacher models an instructional skill, such as using textual evidence to make inferences. Then, the teacher guides the class as they work together to practice the skill. Students then apply the skill at their own level on adaptive activities.
Supplies: A small binder (durable 1”) with 4 dividers
Plenty of white binder paper
Pencils and pens
2 highlighters
A book for silent reading (many Homeroom teachers require one)
Core Values of Our Class
  • We are all responsible for our own actions
  • Act with courtesyand respect towards everyone
  • Always show positive encouragement—this is a safe environment
Classroom Expectations: Academic honesty will be expected at all times. Although we do not anticipate any behavior disruptions, if they do occur, the following system will be enforced. Students will be given a verbal warning for any unwanted behavior. Offenses thereafter will result in documentation via Folsom Middle’s Classroom Due Process:
Step 1- Warning, Parent Contact (note sent home with student to be signed/returned)
Step 2- Warning, Parent Contact (phone or email)
Step 3- Teacher Assigned Consequence, Parent Contact
Step 4- Class Suspension, Parent Contact
Step 5- Class Suspension, Parent Contact
Step 6- Suspension by Administrator, Parent Contact by ADMIN
Note: Some behaviors are more severe and warrant skipping steps and may have more severe consequences.
Citizenship: O= Outstanding S= Satisfactory N= Needs Improvement U= Unacceptable
A student will receive an O when he/she exhibits exceptional behavior, completes work on time, comes to class on time, AND participates in class discussions.
Grading: We use a traditional 10 point grading scale, and grades will be weighted by
Formative Assessments—Class Participation and Home Reading: 10%
Summative Assessments—GRADE, Reading Check, Interactive Reader, and iReady: 90%
Other Formative Activities create the learning measured by these summative grades.
Power School is available at fcusd.org to view logged scores.
A+ = 98% - 100%
A = 93% - 97.9%
A- = 90% - 92.9% / B+ = 88% - 89.9%
B = 83% - 87.9%
B- = 80% - 82.9% / C+ = 78% - 79.9%
C = 73% - 77.9%
C- = 70% - 72.9% / D+ = 68% - 69.9%
D = 63% - 67.9%
D- = 60% - 62.9% F = <60%
Grading Codes: / ABS (absence) / EXD (extended time)= Exempt / RWR (re-write required) / INC (incomplete) = <60% / NTI (not turned in after several opportunities) = 0%
Make-up and Late Work—For every day a student is absent, he/she will have a reasonable period of time in which to make-up the missed work (District policy).This is usually about two days. Students are encouraged to rewrite assignments when appropriate for achievement improvement, and they will be given one week from the date the graded assignment is returned.
Achievement Improvement (re-writes)This is what is offered as extra credit. The supporting philosophy is that students do the work that is assigned, not extra work to make-up for work not assigned. In addition to homework time, there will be scheduled class time for improving assignments. Students are encouraged to rewrite assignments until they get the grade they desire. Most written assignments may be rewritten, and all students can work to improveas long as the assignment was submitted initially on time.Late work does not have this option. If a student is requiredby the teacher to rewrite an assignment (for improvements needed), no grade higher than 60% will be given for that assignment until an acceptable rewrite is submitted.
