Salusbury WORLD is a small charity based in Brent in north-west London. Established in 1999, it seeks to support refugees in realising their ambitions and becoming active members of their communities.

Purpose of the Post: to develop a project for refugee and new migrant students at Newman Catholic College.

The project manager will work alongside family support workers & other Salusbury World staff & volunteers in our three school-based settings: Salusbury Primary School, Capital City Academy and Queens Park Community School.

They will set up and manage a new school-based project to cater for the specific needs of refugee students at Newman Catholic College (NCC).

This project will work within the holistic ethos of Salusbury World.

They will work closely with NCC staff to identify these needs and develop a timed plan for responding to them.

They will also work with NCC & Salusbury World staff and volunteers to develop new initiatives & links with other organisations.

This is currently a part-time role (2 days) for one year from the date of appointment. However, further funding is being sought to extend and expand the project.

Essential Requirements.

  1. Recent experience of working with in the UK statutory education sector atmanagementlevel.
  2. Excellent understanding of UK qualifications and educational pathways
  3. An understanding of the barriers to learning that may affect young people in statutory education
  4. Understanding of the issues and problems experienced by refugees and other migrant groups living in an inner city area.
  5. Experience of working within the education sector with disadvantaged groups
  6. Experience of working with young people and families for whom English is a second language
  7. Clear and concise written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  8. Ability to manage and prioritise workload.
  9. Skills in working with interpreters where necessary
  10. Excellent computer skills.
  11. Ability and willingness to be flexible in duties and work
  12. Commitment to the implementation of an Equalities and Diversity Policy and a thorough understanding of the issues.
  13. Ability to work on own initiative and as a member of a team.
  14. Possession of strong analytic skills

  1. Project management experience.
  2. Experience of recruiting and managing diverse teams
  3. Understanding of 'Safe Recruitment' and 'Safeguarding' procedures
  4. Knowledge of educational rights and entitlements relating to young peoples' immigration status
  5. Experience of liaising with external agencies
  6. Experience of advocating on behalf of children and families
  7. Experience of building relationships in complex settings
  8. Experience of designing and delivering workshops to adults eg parents, school staff & external agencies
  9. Additional language skills
  10. Fundraising experience
