WCAM Off-Hours Programs

From 5pm to 7am weekdays, and all day on weekends / holidays no lab member may be in the lab alone for safety reasons

The Night Monitor Program:

  • A lab member run program that occurs Monday – Thursday from 5pm-9pm
  • The assigned night monitor will come at 5pm to sign into the night monitor computer to advertise to other lab members that they are present
  • The assigned night monitor will also take the night monitor phone when signing into the night monitor computer so that lab members can contact them via text or call @ 608-220-1199
  • Night monitors may not be in the lab alone and should wait outside the cleanroom if no one else needs to go into the cleanroom
  • Night monitors sign into the lab with their own username and password and will not be charged for the cleanroom hourly rate
  • Night monitors may use tools that they are trained on but will incur charges if the tool they use has an hourly charge
  • At 9pm the night monitor will sign out of the night monitor computer and return the night monitor phone next to the computer
  • The night monitor assignment pool comes from lab members that have used the cleanroom for 50 hours or more in the last 12 months
  • Night monitors are assigned via a calendar system put together by the WCAM staff
  • For access to the Night Monitor Calendar and more specifics on this program see here

The Weekend Monitor Program:

  • A hired student hourly program that occurs Saturday & Sunday from 11am-7pm (for now it is a pilot program for the 2016 summer)
  • The weekend monitor will come at 11am to sign into the night monitor computer to advertise to lab members that they are present
  • The weekend monitor will also take the night monitor phone when signing into the night monitor computer so that lab members can contact them via text or call @ 608-220-1199
  • The weekend monitor has been trained to understand WCAMs safety rules and what to do if there is a safety incident
  • The weekend monitor has fewer privileges than lab members in the lab: they are not allowed to touch the tools, they do not have access to the utility chases, they cannot get you lab supplies, etc. The weekend monitor is simply there to watch lone users of the cleanroom and to respond to a safety incident and call 911 if warranted
