These scholarships are available to WHS seniors and are provided by local sponsors and organizations.

You may apply for up to four scholarships in this packet by using the Common Application,

which can be found on Naviance at http://connection.naviance.com/wayzata.

·  Log on to Naviance using your WHS user name and password.

·  Go to the COLLEGE tab, SCHOLARSHIPS AND MONEY and then SCHOLARSHIP LIST.

·  Search for the LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP COMMON APPLICATION.

1.  Type all of your answers. If you retype the application, type it exactly as it is.

2.  Applications must be submitted in a hard copy format.

3.  Please proofread your applications.

4.  No attachments will be accepted, unless an addendum is required for a scholarship.

5.  Submit one copy of the application for each scholarship that you are applying for.

6.  Also submit one extra copy of your application.

7.  Include one transcript fee of $5.00 for your entire packet.

ANCHOR BANK SCHOLARSHIPS – Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to students who have demonstrated the ability and desire to pursue further education and plan to major in economics or a business related field.

ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING SCHOLARSHIP – One $1,000 scholarship or two $500 scholarships will be awarded to student(s) to further their education who have demonstrated a positive attitude while facing individual or family challenges in their own lives. Applicants should realize that relationships with others and who you are as a person each and every day is more important test scores and class ranking. *You must complete an addendum page for this scholarship. It is available in the CCC and on Naviance.*

BILL MANNING SCHOLARSHIP – One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded. The scholarship is given in memory of Bill Manning, whose commitment to Wayzata students was evidenced by his career as a teacher, coach, athletic director and principal. It was while he was principal that he became an advocate for those impacted by chemical dependency. The recipient will be a student who has been touched by chemical dependency, whether battling it yourself, dealing with family or friends, or as an outreach effort.

CLASS OF 1979 LEGACY SCHOLARSHIPS – Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to one male and one female WHS senior. Recipients must have a connection to a WHS alum, display exemplary service to others (including random acts of kindness) and pursue a career as an entrepreneur in a field of their dreams.

CLEMENT AND DOROTHY RAMSLAND SCHOLARSHIP – One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student interested in studying the Romance Languages, English (prose & poetry), Latin, History, Humanities, Philosophy (not theology or religion), Drama and Theater Arts, Music or Education at a fully accredited liberal arts college in Minnesota. Greater consideration will be given to those applying to Hamline University or the University of Minnesota’s College of Liberal Arts.

EVELYN B. NELSON SCHOLARSHIP – One $500 scholarship will be awarded. This scholarship is given in memory of Evelyn Nelson, who had four grandchildren graduate from Wayzata High School. Her passion for education and reading is something she passed on to her children and grandchildren. To be eligible for the scholarship, the student must plan to pursue a degree in elementary education and must not be in the top 25% of the class. Financial need will be considered in the selection process.

HAMEL LIONS CLUB DONNIE DESLAURIERS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (HLCDD) – One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student planning to study in a vocational or technical setting. The student does not need to be at the top of their class academically.

HAMEL LIONS CLUB MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS (HLC) – Nine $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to seniors who are not necessarily at the top of their class, but have been active volunteers in the community, and have the ability and drive to pursue a college education at a vocational, technical, two-year or four-year college. Applicants should live within the geographic boundaries of the Hamel Lions Club, which include all areas of our school district west of Dunkirk Lane, north of the Luce Line Trail, south of Corcoran, and east of Loretto. Financial need will be considered in the selection process, so please address this in your application.

JOANNA SIMER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – One $1,000 scholarship, established in memory of 1996 WHS graduate Joanna Simer, will be awarded to a senior who exemplifies Joanna’s extraordinary qualities. To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must be in the top 25% of the class and must be pursuing a career in the field of life sciences or service in the U.S. government or military. The candidate must be an active volunteer or participant in community service, as well as being an enthusiastic participant in team sports. Being goal oriented, inspiring leadership and possessing an exuberant sense of humor will also be considered.

LEONARD A. NELSON SCHOLARSHIP – One $500 scholarship will be awarded. This scholarship is given in memory of Leonard Nelson, who had four grandchildren graduate from Wayzata High School. Even though he had to drop out of school in the 8th grade, he went on to own and operate a successful store in Hopkins. Although he passed away in 1979 his store just celebrated 50 years in business. To be eligible for the scholarship, the student must plan to study in a vocational or technical setting. The student does not need to be at the top of their class academically. Financial need will be considered in the selection process.

PHILLIP SEMMER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP – One $1,000 scholarship, in memory of 1997 WHS graduate Phillip Semmer, will be awarded to a senior who exemplifies Phillip’s qualities. To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must be in the top 25% of the class, be pursuing a career in engineering, math or science, and must demonstrate an interest in creating global solutions for a life-sustaining world. Enjoying nature and the beauty of the earth, as well as balancing a love of learning with a love of life, will be considered in awarding the scholarship. Candidate must demonstrate kindness and gentleness through enthusiastic participation in community outreach.

PLYMOUTH GUN CLUB SCHOLARSHIP – One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a Wayzata High School senior who has demonstrated an interest in pursuing education in the field of environmental sciences and/or conservation of natural resources. The student must also demonstrate a well-rounded academic and extracurricular profile with the ability and desire to pursue further education.

THE ROTARY CLUB OF WAYZATA MEMORIAL EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION – Fourteen to sixteen $1,000 scholarships will be awarded through The Rotary Club of Wayzata and an endowment from the late M.G. Gullixson. Awards will be based on the student's community service/volunteerism, demonstrated leadership skills and character. Scholastically, applicants do not need to be at the top of their class, but should show academic achievement and the ability and drive to pursue a college education at a vocational, technical, two or four-year college. Financial need will be considered in the selection process, so please address this in your application.

WAYTONKA NURSING/MEDICAL CAREER SCHOLARSHIPS – Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to students with an interest in pursuing a career in any medical field. Financial need will be considered in the selection process, so please address this in your application.

WAYZATA EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIPS – Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to students who are interested in careers in education and have demonstrated the qualities necessary to be successful teachers.

WAYZATA HIGH SCHOOL P.T.O. SCHOLARSHIPS – Four $500 scholarships will be awarded to seniors who have been a positive influence in the life and spirit of Wayzata High School. Winners should demonstrate a well-rounded academic profile and be able to explain in detail how they have contributed to the community of WHS through their involvement, energy and enthusiasm.

WAYZATA LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS - Two $1,000 scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment of service to the community both in and outside of Wayzata High School and who plan to pursue education at a two-year, trade, technical or four-year school. Students need NOT have top academics. Financial need will be considered in the selection process. Applicants must show that their achievements and activities support the club’s motto “We Serve.”

WOODY BUDNICK MEMORIAL / CHIP WILLIAMS SCHOLARSHIP – One $1,500 college scholarship was established in memory of Willard “Woody” Budnick, a band director who taught in the Wayzata Public Schools for over 30 years, and his successor, Chip Williams, who was the Band Director at WHS for 32 years. During both of their careers, they had wonderful bands filled with very talented and dedicated students. Many of these former students and friends have established this scholarship in fond memory of Woody and in honor of Chip. This scholarship is awarded to a senior who has played in band for three to four years at Wayzata High School, excelled at playing his/her instrument, and ranks in the top 25% of the graduating class. *You must complete an addendum page for this scholarship.
