Course Overview: Computer Applications 7: Students will learn correct keyboarding technique and improve speed and accuracy to help them maximize their computer skills while minimizing physical injury. This includes proper posture, correct hand and finger position, proper key stroking technique, and proper spacing and shifting technique. The students will learn the importance of being a good digital citizen through the discussion of online safety, copyright law, and cyberbullying.

Computer Applications 8: Students will use Microsoft Office to learn basic formatting procedures for MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Students will apply their knowledge of these programs to creating budgets, presentations on travel locations, creation of a personal logo, graphing, career exploration, etc.

Assessment Plan: The student’s grade is based on rubrics (grading outline) provided at the start of every assignment. Each assignment is then entered into the gradebook as a percentage. No assignment is weighted more heavily than another. All rubrics/assignments can be previewed through the class website.

The grading scale, as noted in the student handbook, is followed in this class.

Grades may be viewed using the Sapphire Student Reporting system. A link to this is provided on my website as well as the school district website.

Course Policies/Expectations: All school rules found in the student planner apply.

Attendance/Homework/Make-up Work

ü  Attendance is extremely important as most work is done in class.

ü  In the event of absence, it is the students’ responsibility to acquire missing work.

ü  All assignments and due dates can be found in the Sapphire system.

ü  Students are encouraged to stay after, use Brave Block (if possible), or access the information/websites used in class at home to make up missing assignments.

ü  If a test, assignment or quiz is missed, it must be made up within two school days. Failure to do so will result in a zero for the test/quiz/assignment missed.

Classroom Expectations: 1. Be on time! If you are tardy for any reason you must have a signed planner. Sharpening pencils, going to the restroom, getting a drink, etc. should be taken care of before the bell rings.

2.  Come prepared! You should always bring a pencil/pen, planner, and notebook to keep any handouts that you receive. In-class folders will be provided if needed.

3.  Respect everyone! No foul language, one person should talk at a time, etc… If you follow the basic rules of etiquette that you learned in kindergarten you should be fine.

4.  Food, gum, or beverages can all be enjoyed outside this classroom!

5.  Unauthorized and/or inappropriate use of the computer or Internet will not be tolerated! All Internet and Computer Use Policy forms in the student planner must be signed by a parent/guardian before the computer or Internet can be used.

Computer Use Policy: All of the technology equipment provided by the district will be used to develop and enhance the students’ skills so the students will be prepared to further their education or move into the workplace. In order for all students to have every opportunity available to them, students must understand and accept the responsibility for properly using and taking care of this equipment.

Emergency Procedures: Evacuation—as noted on chart posted by door. Exit room.

Upon entering the main hallway, turn left and proceed to the nearest exit. Students must stand as a class for attendance and remain there until released to return indoors.

Suggestions for Success: Come to class daily prepared to work, focus on goal attainment and do not fall behind in your lessons. See me before or after class with any concern about your success in this classroom, with this course.
