Project 1 Summary: A Rich Web Application

A popular in-house developed thick client application existed which we wanted to provide as a web application with authentication, authorization and information control. Previous attempts in traditional ASP.NET Web Forms were unsuccessful and I was asked to find a way to deliver these applications over the Intranet. The Silverlight Line of Business Application template looked like a good fit combined with RIA services and some Infragistics controls. I quickly put together a presentation for the clients and IT managers. It was well received and a project was agreed upon. An Agile like software development process was used with 2 week iterations. We started with the existing functionality and using a modular approach we scoped out the necessary parts. In very quickly we provided a solution which could not be provided in two previous attempts. The success of the new software led to a strong desire to provide the app to customer users.

Project 2Summary: Securely Allowing 3rd Party Clients to Access Custom Applications

Until 2011 only Turner employees were allowed access to our network. Client project managers have requested access to our excellent custom applications from our internal project managers resulting in an IT project for allowing limited network access to 3rd parties. I was tasked to work with network engineers in researching the appropriate network architecture to deploy our applications. I supplied the engineers with a number of UML Layer and component diagram artifacts using the Visual Studio Modeling Project. I navigated a number of whiteboard sessions discussing options for authentication and the end user experience. Finally I installed and troubleshot versions of our applications in the sandbox environment. After an extensive number of tests involving many consultants, vendors, clients and employees we signed off on our system. The ability to allow 3rd party users on to our network is proving to be a big asset to Turner’s service portfolio.

Project 3 Summary: Integration with Enterprise Resource Planning System

Many of our new web based systems began to require access to real time data stored in our ERP system which is JD Edwards World. At that point data was inefficiently pulled directly to client applications via SQL Server which communicated with the ERP via a linked server using old drivers which were slow, dropped connections and didn’t allow effective real time communication. I was tasked with getting an acceptable connection as quick as possible for current needs while planning to setup a permanent and scalable solution. First I documented the existing systems using a number of use case and activity diagrams for sign off by the business owners. After some research for the temporary solution I recommended and had purchased Ritmo drivers which we used to replace the linked server with a web service providing all the same functionality at many times the speed and the clients no longer needed to connect to SQL Server directly. As a long term solution we have been exploring the purchase of the Ideal enterprise integrator from LANSA which I have endorsed after researching how it would address our needs.

Project 4 Summary: Mobile and Limited Connectivity Devices

Most Turner’s business occurs within large petro chemical plants or in remote areas where there is little connectivity and very few places to put a desktop computer. Turner and its competitors have been exploring use of mobile devices in the field and it was decided we would attempt use of safe tough books for custom applications. I was assigned to collaborate between business and infrastructure teams to choose an ideal hardware platform and pilot deployment of custom apps to the field. After working with the infrastructure team customizing, deploying and testing our applications on a number of devices and working with business users to alleviate some hardware and software concerns we settled on a potential candidate and I began piloting the applications in the field. End users were very happy with the user experience of the application while business units saw their needs met in improved forecasting and data validation. This project has been deemed very successful and a larger company wide project is being chartered.

I implementedseveral ASP.NET applications and an SSIS package. I also worked on theclearing house system during the updates for a National Provider Identifier (NPI) project. I also had some involvement with the initial Biztalk 2006 R2 implementation.

Project 1 Summary: Data Transformation and Storage with SSIS

An existing process copied data from the clearing house to the data warehouse. It was identified that the process was failing regularly and resulting in data loss. I was assigned to figure out how to use SSIS to replace this process. SSIS was identified as the appropriate tool by the architects however at the time there was no expert in house on SSIS so I installed Business Intelligence Development Studio and researched how to use the product. I built a package which performed the appropriate data transformations and configured it as per the standards of the Enterprise architect. The new package performed the tasks with zero data loss, no failures and it reduced the time of the process from several hours to less than 10 minutes.

Insider Labs was a web advertising company in Baton Rouge. While there I architected software to take advantage of opportunities we explored. Most of our applications were service based PHP applications with a MySQL back end serving as many as 2 million impressions per day. I also developed and managed applications in VB giving us a competitive edge in domain buying, search engine optimization(SEO) and content delivery through browser toolbars.(BHOs) The BHO was done in Visual Studio 2005, the domain buying tools was a thick client built in Visual Studio .NET and the SEO tools were built using PERL, PHP, JavaScript and HTML.
