We are a large, well-established and thriving teaching Practice seeking to appoint GP’s to join our friendly team in 2016. The right candidate will be an enthusiastic and motivated doctor with an interest in developing General Practice to enhance our team and provide high quality patient-centred care.

Job Summary:

As a member of the Practice Clinical Team you will provide primary healthcare services to patients in all required environments. You will be expected to participate in Practice activities including clinical and staff meetings, audits, and relevant CPD activities; you will also take a role in the development of the Practice. In addition, you will be required to support the Practice’s activities relating to its function as a training practice.

The Practice

Wawn Street Surgery is a large GP Practice based in the coastal town of South Shields which serves over 9,000 patients and is within easy commuting distance of North-East England. Located in a large purpose-built Primary Care Facility provides our team with a modern working environment which has allowed the Practice to flourish and we envisage continued growth and development in the coming years. We consistently perform well against NHS targets and the Quality and Outcome Framework.

General Practice

The Practice is a dynamic one staffed by a hardworking, enthusiastic and friendly team committed to providing high standards of care to patients as well as exploring the opportunities that the continued evolution of the NHS brings. Effective communication and support of the team is core to our ethos and ensures that our work remains interesting and enjoyable.

Our association with other local health service providers has enabled us to maximise partnering and collaborative working opportunities for the benefit of our patients and staff. Allied to this, the Practice as a whole has a broad interest in leadership, education and training. The Practice is approved for the training of GP’s and medical students.

The Reason for the Vacancies

Our aspiration for growth and development along with recent changes in our clinical staffing has provided the opportunity to reassess our strengths and look to the future. As a result, we now require a number of flexible, enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join the team and add value as GP’s who will play an active part in strengthening our ambition for innovation and training ensuring that it remains central to our ethos.

The Successful Applicant

The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic and flexible team player with a keen interest in training, an eye on success, and the ambition to explore any future partnership potential. A key-member of the clinical team, they will provide primary healthcare services to patients in all clinical settings in addition to actively participating in Practice development activities including clinical and staff meetings, audits and relevant CPD. In addition, there will be a requirement to take an active role in the Practice’s training and education work. Eligibility to work in the UK, full GMC registration, placement on the Medical Performers List and membership of a recognised medical indemnity organisation are essential conditions of employment.

Daily Clinical Responsibilities:

You will be expected to undertake consultations in all clinical settings as directed during your paid clinical time. These consultations will cover the breadth of the Practice’s GMS and Enhanced Service obligations and you will be expected to support the Partners in providing such services as outlined in the GMS Contract and any national, directed or local enhanced services agreed with NHS England, South Tyneside CCG or any successor body.

You will be expected to maintain and keep good standards of clinical records at all times and to work within Practice policy for prescribing. Additionally, you will be required to work to the systems and processes developed by the Practice both clinical and non-clinical (e.g. Path Lab results and comments, appropriate read coding and so on) and contribute towards the efficient and effective management of such systems.

You will be required to give due regard to the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) and contribute to achieving maximum points in all areas.

You will be required to share the daily responsibility of checking and signing prescription requests, dealing with patient queries and providing clinical supervision to the nursing team and support to the management team and administrative staff as appropriate.

You will be expected to support and input into the aims of the Practice in areas including clinical governance, best practice, clinical audits and any other improvement activity as determined by the Practice.

You will be expected to:

•  Apply Practice policies, standards and guidelines

•  Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work

•  Participate in audit where appropriate

Personal/Professional Development:

The post includes paid CPD time in accordance with the Salaried GP Model Contract. Flexibility will be afforded to CPD time in order to enable you to meet the objectives laid out in the GP appraisal PDP. You will be expected to attend educational and training activities provided by the Practice as part of your CPD commitment.

You will be expected to strive to maintain quality within the Practice, and will:

Hours of Work:

Your working hours will be conducted in accordance with an agreed job-plan following clarification of the sessions to be worked. Generally we would expect you to work between 3-4 days dependant on the agreed sessional mix, Monday to Friday.

You will be expected to be flexible with regards to the agreed schedule of hours stated in the job plan in order to assure business continuity as and when the business need indicates. It is anticipated that this will happen by exception and in such circumstances an agreed minimum notice period will be exercised.

Leave Entitlement:

Annual and study leave entitlement with CPD time will be based on standard BMA Salaried GP Contract and applied pro rata.

The Package

Salary based on experience. You will also be entitled to join the NHS pension scheme. Annual and study leave entitlement with CPD time will be based on standard BMA Salaried GP Contract and applied pro rata.
