Initial Installation
To install WatchDog, please do as follows:
1. You may download the latest version of WatchDog from here (http://www.sarna.net/watchdog/wdcurrent.exe). Save the wdcurrent.exe file to your hard disk.
2. Run the installation file, wdcurrent.exe. The WatchDog Installer will set up all of the required WatchDog and system files on your computer.
3. Once the WatchDog Installer has exited, you will be asked to reboot your machine.
4. After rebooting, the WatchDog Initial Setup should show. If it does not, please run WatchDog from your Start Menu.
5. The WatchDog Initial Setup wizard will guide you through the process of installing WatchDog on your computer.
6. Now you will need to set up a Parent User for your machine. Parent Users are the only users that can change WatchDog settings and users.
Please be sure to write down your password in a safe place. If you lose your password, you will get locked out of Windows!
7. WatchDog allows you to create a "Backup Administrator" account in case your main Parent User gets disabled or locked out of Windows. This account will have the same password as your previous user, though you will not be able to edit it at all.
Making the Backup Administrator account is highly recommended.
8. Next, you should decide if you want to use the WatchDog Login screen for authentication or the Windows Login screen.
If you use the Windows Login screen, you will not need to log in your user twice (Windows, then WatchDog). However, the Windows Login screen is not as secure as the WatchDog Login screen.
The WatchDog Login screen provides for more security and several other options such as hiding the user list, multiple passwords per user, and having a login timer.
9. If you select the Windows Login screen, you will be prompted to import the current Windows user database. Select what users you want imported and which users will have Parent Rights.
10. Last, you will have to decide what default settings you want to use for your computer. This screen has several security levels along with their descriptions and any side effects.
11. The last step is adding any additional users you wish to the WatchDog database. This screen lists the current users in the database:
Please add any new users by selecting the "Add New User" button. It will display the Add New User Wizard shown below:
Please follow the steps of the Add New User Wizard to create any users you require.
12. Once you are done adding users, please select the "Next" button. You are now done installing WatchDog!
