Waste generated and treated, 2016

– Preliminary results –

During 2016, the following sections: Agriculture, forestry and fishing, Mining and quarrying, Manufacturing, Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities, Construction and Other service activities generated 47.1 million tons of waste, whereof 63.5% related to non-hazardous and 36.5% to hazardous waste. The largest part of generated hazardous waste was in the section of Mining and quarrying (44.3%).

Quantities of generated waste, observed by sections and in relation to the previous year, noted the following trends in 2016: Mining and quarrying – decrease of 6.5%; Manufacturing – increase of5.4%; Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply – decrease of0.4%,Water supply; Sewerage, Waste management and remediation activities – increase81.3% and Service activities - decreaseof3.0%.

Increase in the amount of waste generated in the sectors Construction and Water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (division Waste collection, treatment and disposal activities; materials recovery) is a consequence of the increased activity in this sectors and changes in the methodology of data collection.

The sector Agriculture, forestry and fishing is the first time covered by of the survey on waste generated and treated.
