DECISION SUPPORT MANAGER – KC18.08

The Decision Support Manager reports directly to the Director of Finance at Women’s College Hospital.

The essential functions of the position are as follows:

  • Develops, manages and maintains productivity and service-level reports
  • Works effectively with related department managers in the development and maintenance of reports related to Patient Care, Operations/Support Services, Finance/Accounting, and Information Systems
  • Performs profit/loss analysis on all hospital services, outpatient clinics, physicians and departments
  • Assists in the development of clinical indicators throughout the network.
  • Provides support to the budget department during the annual budget development process
  • Enhance system of reporting of financial and clinical data
  • Assume lead role in system implementation
  • Develops business cases and proforma financials for new hospital services
  • Analyzes reports as produced and provides Senior Management with written and verbal reports on pertinent variances/trends, providing recommendations for process improvements
  • Develops, maintains and manages hospital cost accounting system
  • Meets with managers and directors to design and develop analytical reports that assist them with their strategic or operational decision making process
  • Assists in determining appropriate productivity goals for new departments and updates goals as necessary for existing departments
  • Identifies improvement opportunities through benchmarking of goals and/or staff with other institutions
  • Identifies opportunities to improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness including: faster, easier, more efficient ways to manipulate and report data
  • Develops and manages operational improvement programs for clinical and support departments
  • Designs database applications to assist related departments in developing solutions for improved productivity and financial accountability
  • Maintains data integrity through the development and implementation of strategies for improving database and query performance
  • Creates templates, filters, and reports to meet individual user needs
  • Implements modeling techniques for trend analysis and performance analysis
  • Develops other data collection tools, analyzes data, and provides input in the making of operational decisions as required
  • Participates in the CQI efforts of Clinical Management

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A combination of experience, education, and/or training which substantially demonstrates the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Database development and analysis
  • A strong understanding of MIS reporting
  • Microsoft Office products
  • Automated systems related to Health information and Financial/statistical reporting hospital.
  • Principles of mathematical and statistical analysis, preparation and presentation
  • Research techniques, data compilation and analysis, and report writing
  • Principles and practices of public and/or business administration

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, or other related field is highly desirable.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Finance Department and/or Operations/Support Division preferably in an acute care or ambulatory care hospital setting.
