Questions on the session of 05/27/16
WAS JESUS CRAZY IN CLAIMING TO BE GOD?
DELUSIONS OF GRANDEUR
1]In Chapter 2, the author retraced the evidence that showed that Jesus meant it when he claimed to be God. The author thus believes that in such a situation, a natural issue would be raised: Was Jesus crazy when he made those claims? Since it is obviously impossible to go back in time and get a psychological evaluation of Jesus, the author interviewed a leading psychologist, Dr. Gary Collins, about insanity. Dr. Collins described the symptoms that psychologists look for to determine whether a person is mentally unbalanced.
What are those symptoms? What was Jesus’ emotional response to each one?
2]From page 34, the author mentions that at the time of Jesus, some people had their doubts in him while others didn’t.
What did the author quote from the New Testament? Please use the Holy Bible (NKJV) for your answer and include exact reference.
3]The author admits that at least some people, in Jesus’ time as well as today, figured it wasn’t crazy to claim to be God if you could back it up with the things Jesus was doing.
Give some examples of these things.
MIRACLE WORKER OR MASTER HYPNOTIST
1]The author quotes Psychologist Gary Collins, to explain that nowadays a lot of people, religious and non-religious alike, have no problem believing in miracles.
What did Dr. Collins say about how our society recognize ‘the supernatural’?
2]The author states that if miracles were part of the evidence that Jesus was who he said he was, then he would want to know more about these miracles. But then he says that he was not one of those people who would believe in miracles that easy.
How would the author think if something supernatural was supposed to happen?
What did the author believe would be one of the most likely natural causes for Jesus’ miracles?
Which miracle did the author say that Jesus might have used hypnotism to accomplish? (With reference)
3]The author is wondering if Jesus’ being a master hypnotist could explain the supposedly miraculous things he did, and thus the author looked into this possibility.
What certain facts did he discover about hypnosis and what were the reports of miracles that challenged the hypnosis theory? Another way to ask this question would be: How did the author find out that the hypnosis theory was less than a satisfying hypothesis for explaining Jesus’ miracles?
A MISSION THAT MATTERS
1]What does the author think Jesus traded his life for?
2]The author is wondering which is crazier, what or what?
What do you infer about our Lord from this?
