Public Works Committee Meeting

Thursday, May 2, 2013

The Public Works Committee meeting was called to order by Commissioner Kimberly Harding, Thursday, May 2, 2013 in Town Hall conference room. Attending were Commissioner Margaret Britt, Commissioner Palmer (Woody) King, Bill Perkinson Public Works Director, Robert Davie Town Administrator and Annette Silver, Minute Taker.

The purpose of the meeting was to explain the request for the purchase of a truck for Public Works Department. Mr. Perkinson explained he had received information on a 2013, ¾ ton, extended cab, tinted window truck at approximately $32,000. The intent would be to make 3 annual payments of approximately $10,000 more or less beginning August 2014 (even though the order is placed now the delivery would be 5-8 months out). This would not impact the department budget unduly.

Perkinson, also, explained trucks would be rotated within the Public Works Department with the oldest truck being placed in surplus. The trucks are maintained regularly which keeps purchases low needing no major maintenance. The difference in cost of a ½ ton versus a ¾ ton and 2-wheel drive versus 4-wheel drive is minimal and the request for an extended cab and tinted windows is considered a safety necessity for employees. In order to receive the quoted price and conditions the order must be placed by the end of May 2013. If the truck cannot be delivered by the quoted date the company will upgrade to a 2014 at the same price quote.

Commissioner Britt made the motion with second by Commissioner King to accept suggestion of Bill Perkinson and Robert Davie to purchase a 2013, ¾ ton, extended cab, tinted window truck for the Public Works Department. The vote was unanimous that the Committee recommend to the full Board of Commissioners at the May 13, 2013 meeting, that Bill Perkinson proceed with the order for the truck as originally planned.

With no further business meeting was adjourned.
