Thursday Morning Traffic at Walnut Springs

Thursday morning traffic at Walnut Springs will continue to be very heavy through mid-February. Because of Ski Club, more cars than usual come to Walnut Springs on Thursdays asSki Club members are bringing and unloadingtheir ski equipment; this creates a longer, slower car line than we have on other days.On these mornings, please add 20 - 30 minutes to your wait time; arriving by 7:30 will helpprevent your student from being tardy.

Learn More About Asthma: January 25

Does your child have asthma, or have you ever wondered if your child may have undiagnosed asthma? According to the CDC, asthma is one of the leading causes of school absences. Parents and school staff can help students safely manage their asthma at school.

On January 25th, 7:00-8:30 p.m., at Wilder Elementary School (6375 Goldfinch Drive, Westerville 43081),GARRY R. RUPP, M.D., of Buckeye Allergy and Asthma and Columbus Children’s Hospital, and THE BREATHING ASSOCIATION will provide an informational meeting on asthma, and on how parents and school staff can help children attend more days at school and do better in school by controlling their asthma symptoms. Refreshments will be served.

High School 101: January 26

Are you wondering what to expect as your children approach enrolling in high school? This basic introduction to high school is designed for families of students who will be attending Westerville Central High School, Westerville North High School, or Westerville South High School.

Please join uson January 26, 2011 at 7 p.m., at Westerville South High School Auditorium,for "High School 101." This 60-minute program is designed for parents of middle school students. A panel of high school educators will give information about academics, high school scheduling, graduation requirements and several high school programs including International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement, and Career and Technical Programs.

The Souper Bowl Luncheon:The Souper Bowl Luncheon is on February 1, 2011, from 10:30-1:00 p.m. We are in desperate need of food and volunteers to make this a success for our staff. Please, if you would like to donate food or your time, please contact either Tammy Roberts at r Tiffany Thompson at .

The GEM Award:GEM Award is given to recognize an individual who makes a difference in the lives of the students of each school in the Westerville school district. A nominee may be acommunity member, a volunteer, aparent, ordistrict and building faculty and staff. The deadline for nomination is February 17, 2011. PTSA Scholarships:Walnut Springs PTSA offers two $500.00 scholarships to graduating seniors, who have attended Walnut Springs. For more information about these scholarships,please contact your high school guidance counselor.

Skating Party:Walnut Springs PTSAis having a skating party on February 26, 2011, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. The skating party will be held at the Sunbury Skate Club at 345 McGill St.,Sunbury, OH, 43074 (phone no. 740-965-3022). We will sell ticket during lunch periods the week of February 22-25, 2011.

Summer Camp / Activities Expo:Westerville Parent Council Summer Camp/ActivitiesExpo will be on March 15, 2011, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at WNHS. This is a chance for parents to gather information about activities for students during the summer months.

Nominating Committee:The PTSA still needs people to be on the nominating committee. The committee will look for individuals who they think would make good PTSA officers for the next year. If you areinterested in serving on this committee, please contact Tammy Roberts at .

Our next PTSA meeting will be March 15, 2011, at 6:30 p.m. in the media center.
