Discussion

/
1 / Welcome/intros
2 / Apologies – as above
3 / Minutes of 8th September 2016
CQC – good feedback with only minor operational issues highlighted but no formal report received yet.
Patients – x20 feedback cards collected – Inspectors met Jane and Margaret – of the x20 patients surveyed, x 19 expressed satisfaction with the Practice service.
Sutton Vision – useful notes of presentation
Flu Clinic – good overall response to text and word of mouth appts. Steady response in September with written reminders sent – may be last occasion on which written notification is used - may expand text messaging to voice messaging – though more impersonal, economically efficient. Numbers written to x700 – x800 in total. Between one and three thousand vaccinations inc those at pharmacies.
Matters arising: Nil
4/5 / Practice Update: Appointment of Dr. Murray GP. Change of GP Registrars. Jude Berry relocation to Suffolk – FT Secretarial vacancy filled by x 2 new P/T Secs.
Matters of concern: Waiting time to see Dr. Hossein Ally – 2 weeks sick leave has impacted on workload and waiting times. There is a great demand for appts. Generally and appt slots are released from embargo daily – popularity of S.A.W Clinic.
Waiting times for seeing a Consultant – 18 weeks approximated NHS if using Benenden.
Repeat Prescription requests formally directed to Jude Berry are now being directed to our Prescription Clerk Tracey Sellers. For reasons of Patient Safety prescriptions are not accepted verbally but are required in writing. Can be ordered by e mail also and via website. Some delay in issuing new medication is encountered due to wait times for discharge summaries from hospitals. Explanation provided of our admin deputising system and Doctor Group Deputising System. Noted increase in electronic mail from hospitals – Docman.
Doris had raised an enquiry regarding Mental Health Contacts within the Practice: Dr. Noorani – Lead for Mental Health issues. Dr. Roberts attends CCG Locality Meetings and maintains contact with Uplift who recently gave a presentation to the Surgery regarding their work.
Ongoing matters of concern: TV Screen in Reception – out of date information – small illegible print.
Query raised as to whether WFP should wear Uniform (comparison made with Shotfield Personnel) Expense of uniform provision is a concern. WFP identifiable by Name Badge.
Patient Participants noted Reception Staff were providing a very personable service over recent months.
Nursing quality and sense of humour also noted.
Does SAW Clinic Operate a numbering system pre 9am?
Use of mobile phones in the Patient waiting area – difficulty in enforcing a ban.
Availability of facilities to consult in confidence on request should a Patient require it.
Blood Tests which require Fasting as a pre-requisite – is it possible for fasting to be included as a dedicated Field on the Blood Form? The need to fast will always apply to cholesterol testing.
Inclusion of Minutes from this Meeting on Webpage?
6/7 / Recent News/issues: Patient Reference Group Representatives are noted to be Jane, Sally and Jas.
Attendance on 26th October 2016: 5 year NHS Sustainability and Transformation Plan.
C. Wilson of the Sutton Clinical Commissioning Group produced a document capturing the 5 year forward plan for S.West London.
NHS England: x 44 footprints controlled by their respective local CCGs.
Wishing to move towards more care in the community/acute care thereby relieving the pressure on hospitals. There is concern regarding the reduction in local council budgets.
Conservative MP Sarah Woolsten stated that money promised had not materialised.
Community Hubs cannot cope with the volume of work assigned to them.
There has been very little public consultation on the restructuring proposals.
The Chair expressed her concern about box ticking any plans on which Patients have not had their fair say.
Also of concern is whether GPs are aware of the full extent of the proposals and their impact on Patient care particularly where CCG may not have a significant proportion of GP Representatives.
Aim of making £28 million savings over 5 years in SW London. To include a 44% acute inpatient bed day reduction. Ambulance waiting time outside hospitals increasing. 13% reduction in elective surgery. Closure of x11 local pharmacies proposed.
KEY PROPOSALS: x 5 acute hospitals to be reduced to x4 or even x3.
SHH believed to be vulnerable due to infrastructure being non compliant with modern standards. SGH in special measures currently.
Meeting agreed that a simplified version of the NHS Transformation Proposals would be prepared by PPG Representatives in the form of a user friendly leaflet. Once available Jonathan would agree content with Doctors/Clinicians for issue to Patients to increase awareness and for their feedback to be given to Healthwatch.
8 / Social Media: concern arising over abusive comments posted on a Public Facebook Page regarding one of the Practice Doctors.
Despite this, Social media could be used to good effect for Patients to share their positive experiences of the Practice, memorabilia and information of benefit to all.
The Patient on line workshop scheduled for 15th November was notified late – conversation regarding this matter to be deferred.
FUTURE MEETINGS: 9TH March 2017
8th June 2017
AOB: Antibiotic Awareness Day – the findings were that most patients spoken to were very knowledgeable about the cautious prescribing of antibiotics due to increased resistance of bacterial infections. A Guardian news article had recently revealed that persons taking antibiotics are x 13 times more susceptible to infection.
Requests for Access to Medical Records by Patients – Process is that Patients apply to Reception with photo id. Doctors to review the information proposed to be released.
Chair confirmed that Sandy Smith (WFP Patient) is on the mailing list for PPG news due to her expression of interest in the Group.
