Wallerstein Foundation for Geriatric Life Improvement

Grant Guidelines

March 2016

To apply for a grant from the Wallerstein Foundation for Geriatric Life Improvement (hereinafter: The Wallerstein Foundation) an initial Letter of Inquiry (LoI) must be submitted electronically, describing the nature of the proposed program to be undertaken and/or the specific need or problem to be addressed, as well as the particular outcomes that will be achieved, including quantitative metrics (where appropriate) to measure success. Normally, the LoI should not exceed three, single-spaced pages and should be accompanied by a preliminary budget and a description of the proposing organization and its mission.

Based on its available resources, the Wallerstein Foundation typically makes grants of one-year duration, though it may in limited circumstances consider making a multi-year commitment. The Foundation will only accept grant requests from legally incorporated, 501c(3) organizations that have been approved by the Internal Revenue Service. Evidence of IRS certification must be provided along with the letter of inquiry. Given its size, the Wallerstein Foundation is unable to provide general budgetary support; it focuses instead on funding specific projects, related program needs and requirements, and, on some occasions, supporting geriatric research. After reviewing the LoI, the Foundation may request additional detailed information, including a line item budget and other supporting documentation. Site visits also may be undertaken, especially in the case of organizations seeking grants for the first time.

In order to be considered for review, the LoI must include the following information on a cover sheet:

·  Name and physical location of the proposing organization

·  Mailing address (along with an explanation, if different from the above)

·  E-mail address

·  Telephone and fax numbers

·  Name of the executive director or head of the organization

·  Name of the project director (if different)

·  For organizations requesting support for the first time: a description of the organization and its mission, along with certification of its not-for-profit IRS status and the most recent IRS Form 990 must be provided

·  Title of grant proposal and total amount of funds requested

·  History (by year) of previous grant proposals to and grants provided by the Wallerstein Foundation. (Note: due to funding constraints, the Foundation is unable to consider multiple requests for support from an organization during the same fiscal year.)

Along with the cover sheet, the grant seeker should include:

·  Letter of Inquiry – maximum three pages, single-spaced

·  A preliminary budget with appropriate details

·  Any additional supporting documentation (if necessary)

All Letters of Inquiry must be submitted electronically to:
