February Meeting Highlights

Stitchmistress Jane welcomed 51 members plus one newto the meeting. Judy Betts won the Disappearing 9 Patch blocks. Lovely fat quarters were won by Yvonne Shields and Maureen Connor.
At the meeting we discussed the Committee decision to change the AGM date as announced at the December Meeting, and printed in the February Newsletter, and this change was agreed. We will formallychange the date at the AGM, because that is the forum for a change to the Constitution.
Subs will remain same as last year, and are due by 31 March as usual. Remember that if you pay before 31 March 2017 the cost is only $30, but if you pay after that date the cost is $35.

Stitching Days
There won’t be a Stitching Day in March because of the bus trip – see below – and did you know that 18 March is World Wide Quilting Day? You can celebrate by going on the bus trip!
The following workday will be on 23 April, set later because of Easter. The workshop on this day will be to make a purse, and if you want to join in, a needs list will be available nearer the time.

Could be a quilt, placemats, a tree skirt, whatever you like, Everyone is welcome to join in, whether or not you did the Challenge last year.
Bus trip – Saturday 18 March
This trip is to the Kowhai Quilters Exhibition at Fielding, departing Masterton at 8.30am and departing Fielding at 3.00pm to return. There will be a Merchants Mall with 8 merchants, and Mr Sharp scissor sharpening will be in attendance.

I have booked a 49 seat bus which I would love to fill. Once all club members have indicated if they wish to go,

Library Corner – Rachel’s report

Hi everyone,
Sorry I had to miss the February meeting- I hope everyone had a well earnt rest over the silly season, and also enjoyed browsing through the library books they took home! This year we are hoping that people will continue to utilise the library books for the wonderful resource that they are, and with that in mind we are proposing to ask for a $1 donation for your first item borrowed each meeting, with as many additional items as you wish to borrow being free. Any items that have been purchased during the last year will need to be returned the next month, whilst we will be more relaxed over older library books being borrowed for 2-3 months at a time as needed. Any extra $$ donations for longer borrowing times will of course be gratefully received if you feel so inclined on their return! This system is on trial so please do feel free to provide me with any feedback and thoughts you may have on it, or other ideas to try! / Book for February is 'Sylvia's Bridal Sampler'
by Jenny Chiaverini.

Help needed
We currently have a vacancy for one library assistant, so please let me know if you might be interested in joining our little team. Duties include helping set up and put away the library books before and after every second meeting or so, and taking turns helping issue and return books before the meeting and at tea break. Its a great way to get to know other members, and the extensive library collection as well of course! The position would suit any member- new or otherwise, and could also suit anyone thinking they might like to step forward as librarian at some stage in the future, to give them a little practice time first! / Book for March is 'Kaffe Fassett's Bold Blooms'
