DRESS CODE POLICY

2016 – 2017

All students, including students exempted from wearing a uniform, are expected to exemplify proper grooming standards in a manner that projects an appropriate image for the student, school, and District.

All students shall wear clean clothing that is not torn or damaged. Jean, pants, shorts and skirts with ripped, distressed, shredded, or cut-outs are not allowed, regardless of the size of the distressed area.

Students, not in dress code including the student ID badge, will have the following options:

 Change their clothing and/or purchase a temporary ID badge. Acceptable t-shirts and jeans are available in the Clinic. ID badges may be purchased from the Main Office

 Contact a parent/guardian to arrange for acceptable clothing/badge to be brought to school. (Student will remain in In School Suspension until items arrive at school.)

 Last resort: Student will be given a Level I discipline referral and be assigned to In School Suspension for the day.

Slacks and Pants:

 Color: No Restrictions

 Style: Slacks and pants can be pleated or flat front, full length, and appropriately sized for the student and fastened at the waist

Acceptable Material: Cotton, canvas, corduroy, linen, polyester, or twill.

Unacceptable Material: Spandex and stretch material is UNACCEPTABLE for student dress.

  • Students MAY NOT wear:
  • Leggings, jeggings, or spandex pants
  • Sweat pants, Joggers, or sweat shorts,
  • Basketball pants or basketball shorts

 Slacks or pants may NOT sag.

Tops:

 Color: No Restrictions

 Style:

  • Acceptable: long sleeve, short sleeve, polo style, turtlenecks
  • Unacceptable: tank tops, camisoles, see-through, spaghetti-strap, bare-midriff, side or back cutouts
  • All tops MUST be worn and appropriately sized for the student.

Logos or Designs: No references to drugs, alcohol, guns or weapons, gangs or information that is offensive.

Skirts, Jumpers, Shorts, Capris:

 Color: No Restrictions

 Style: Can be pleated or flat front, full length, and appropriately sized for the student and fastened at the waist

Acceptable Material: Cotton, canvas, corduroy, linen, polyester, or twill.

Unacceptable Material: Spandex and stretch material is UNACCEPTABLE for student dress.

  • Students MAY NOT wear:

  • Sweat shorts
  • Basketball pants or basketball shorts

 Style: Skirts and shorts must be below the fingertips when the student’s arms are relaxed and in a normal position. Skirts and shorts must be below the fingertips front, sides, and in the back.

Jackets:

 Color: No Restrictions

 Style: Must be appropriately sized.

Logos or Designs: No references to drugs, alcohol, guns or weapons, gangs or information that is offensive

 Hooded Jackets: May be worn, but students may not wear the hood of the jacket or coat on or over their head while at school

Footwear:

 Style: Athletic shoes, loafers, dress shoes, or other closed-toed/closed-heel shoes are acceptable. Sandals may be worn if they have a back strap and the strap is worn while at school. No flip flops, slides, or shoes without a back or back strap.

Student ID Badges:
All students are required to wear the school issued ID badge at all times. Students must fasten the ID badge on the school issued lanyard and it must be worn around the neck. ID badges must be visible at all times.

Jewelry and Tattoos:

 Students may not wear facial jewelry and may not show visible body piercing, including piercing of the tongue, during school hours.

 Students shall not wear any jewelry or similar artifacts on the outside of their clothing that are either obscene, distracting, or may cause disruptions to the educational environment.

 Tattoos, if any, should be covered.
