Position:Kitchen Support

Accountable to:Camp Director

Reports to:Food Services Coordinator

General Description: Under the direction of the Food Services Coordinator, the Kitchen Support Staff is part of the Food Services Team and is responsible for providing the support services related to the operation of the kitchen and dining hall. The fundamental purpose of CampOpemikon’s summer camp is to provide a safe, fun-filled and educational experience. Campers have an opportunity to develop outdoor skills and personal growth in a residential camping environment. The success or failure of a child’s summer camp experience, in large part, is the responsibility of the full staffing team. The Kitchen Support Staff is typically first or second year staff members, who have a keen interest in the well-being of the camper; and in their own personal development as a staff member in the food services area.

Kitchen Staff: Food Services Coordinator (1), Assistant Cook (1), Rations (1), Support Staff (3) and

2 Program/Resource Staff for dining hall and dishwashing duties as required

Work Time:

  • June 25th to August 12th, 2017
  • NOTE: 2017 Camp periods run Saturday afternoon to Saturday morning

Salary:To a maximum of $2,160 for total period. *Accommodations and meals are included as part of compensation package*

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work as a member of the food services team in the serving of meals, clean-up of dining hall and kitchen after meals, and in minor food preparation as requested.
  • Assist the Cooks in maintaining facilities to meet Scouts Canada, Ontario Camps Association and legislated health and safety standards.
  • Assist the Cooks by encouraging good health practices, providing a safe enjoyable environment, and exercising positive discipline.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment and materials are cleaned and operating at the highest standards possible.
  • Assist in serving meals and educating all staff and campers on proper table etiquette.
  • Assist and educate all staff and campers in proper use and care of dining hall equipment.
  • Assist in the implementation of rigid risk management procedures.
  • Mandatory participation in camp-wide activities, such as Scouts Own.
  • Display enthusiasm for activities, personal cleanliness, dress, speech, manners and relations with campers and staff.
  • Attend mandatorypre-camp training.
  • Assist in other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Typically 16 years of age or older
  • Knowledge of Scouts Canada, Ontario Camps Association, and Health and Safety requirements
  • Up-to-date Standard First Aid/CPR
  • Completion of a Counselor-In-Training course or equivalent
  • Some experience in food services industry
  • Completion of Food Handler’s Course is mandatory
  • Embodies personal beliefs in keeping with the Mission, Principles and Practices of Scouts Canada
  • Demonstrated appropriate attitude, skills and knowledge for the position
  • Completes Scouts Canada screening process including a current clear Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check if 18 or over
  • Is prepared to take any necessary training throughout the year, including mandatory pre-camp
  • Willing to work non-traditional hours
  • Good physical health
