Meeting Minutes September 11, 2012

Information

New Business

-Thank you to LCDR Amy Dayhoff for filling in and leading during the last meeting. LT Sheila Weagle was unable to attend.

-LT Sheila Weagle proposed an idea of providing a webinar to prepare PAG members for promotion. The webinar could cover topics such as promotion benchmarks, results, CV and awards. It will be viewable for replay on the PAG site for those that could not attend. We need individuals that would be interested in helping with this. If you are interested please contact LT Sheila Weagle at or . Thank you LCDR Dorinda Ball for volunteering a presentation.

-In addition, PAG is looking for experienced senior officers who are comfortable in reviewing CVs for those officers up for promotion. If anyone is interested, please contact LT Sheila Weagle.

-Readiness Run is September 30, 2012 at….. Also be sure to update Direct Access and OFRD with new CPR cards, 5-year physicals and immunizations, etc.

ODU

New ODUs are available. There is a 1 year phase in period for PHS officers. However, the BOP has a 6 month phase in period. The deadline for BOP’s uniform transition is the official uniform change in the spring. If anyone would like to volunteer a picture of them in the new ODU, please send to LT Sheila Weagle for the newsletter.

Senate Bill 679

Bill was passed. PHS officers being called to active duty no longer have to go through the Senate. This makes for a much easier transition. Officers with an O-3 and below have new appointment standards. PHS is still not accepting new dental hygiene applicants.

DH Billet Issues

Billets still not fully completed. Once they are completed, one can submit request to change to a higher billet if they disagree with their newly assigned one.

PAG Updates

Two voting members’ terms will be expiring at the end of this year. In order to submit your nomination, one must have your supervisor’s approval to participate for a three year term. We are still taking applications until September 21, 2012.

Subcommittee Reports

Recruitment/Retention- LCDR Dorinda Ball- No new dental hygiene applicants being accepted at this time. Individuals that submitted applications prior to the reform are still in the process of being converted. No COSTEPS are being accepted. One RDH separated; therefore there are a total of 94 PHS dental hygienists.

Career Development- LCDR Michelle Bleth-Weber –Absent.

Awards- LTJG Paige Geffre – No new awards. She is volunteering her help with a new voting member that may take over the Award Subcommittee when her term expires. This year Award plaques were given to the recipients and would like to continue that in the future.

Oral Health Practitioner - LCDR Ball/LCDR Simpson – Future of Oral health a practitioner is at a stand-still ADA released a report showing oral health practitioners in a negative light. ADHA did respond to the report maintaining the tremendous benefits of oral health practitioners and questioned the validity of ADA’s study methods. Currently agencies are afraid to take on new practitioners for fear of liability.
